What is Mock Drill?

A mock drill is a practice exercise. It helps people and officials prepare for emergencies. In simple words, it is a rehearsal of a real-life disaster situation. • Air Raid System Check: To evaluate the efficiency and responsiveness of air raid warning systems during simulated emergencies.
• Communication Link Activation: To establish and test hotline and radio communication channels with the Indian Air Force.
• Control Room Readiness: To assess the functionality and preparedness of main and backup control rooms.
• Civilian & Student Training: To train civilians and students in basic civil defence skills for self-protection during attacks.
• Blackout & Camouflage Measures: To implement emergency blackout protocols and initiate early camouflage of critical infrastructure.
• Evacuation Plan & Bunker Prep: To update evacuation strategies and ensure that bunkers and trenches are cleaned and operational.

Defence Mock Drill in India Date

India's nationwide Civil Defence Mock Drill is set to take place on May 7, 2025. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has instructed all states and union territories to carry out the exercise across 244 designated civil defence districts, extending activities down to the village level. The closing date of the mock drill in India is likely to be May 9, 2025. 

Following the exercise, each state and union territory is required to submit an "Action Taken Report" detailing the execution, observed response challenges, and suggestions for future improvements.

• Crash Blackouts: Cities and towns will turn off visible lights to replicate blackout conditions, reducing visibility to enemy aircraft, similar to practices during the 1971 war.
• Camouflage Operations: Key sites like power stations, communication centers, and military bases will undergo camouflage drills to test concealment from aerial or satellite detection.
• Evacuation Simulations: Mock evacuations from vulnerable areas will be conducted to identify coordination gaps and improve speed and safety.
• Civilian & Student Training: Awareness sessions in schools, offices, and communities will cover shelter-seeking, basic first aid, and emergency behavior.
• Bunker & Trench Readiness: Shelters and trenches will be cleaned and inspected to ensure they are ready for immediate use.
