UPSC Cut Off 2024 was released on April 22, 2025. UPSC Prelims Cut-Off 2024 increased to 87.98 this year for the general category, while the mains cut-off fell to 729 compared to the previous year (Prelims 75.41 and Mains 741, respectively). The authority to decide the UPSC Cut Off 2024 or minimum qualifying marks for all three stages of the UPSC IAS exam lies with the Union Public Service Commission. Following the UPSC Final Result 2024, the UPSC Cut Off 2024 for Prelims, Mains, and Interview was declared on ‘upsc.gov.in’ on the same day.

UPSC Final Cut Off 2024

The Commission has released the UPSC Final Cut Off for Civil Service Examination 2024 on its official website, along with the final UPSC Result 2024. Candidates who have qualified for the UPSC Exam 2024 can check the minimum qualifying marks secured by the last recommended candidate as well the final total marks obtained by UPSC Toppers 2025 in the following table

UPSC Prelims Cut Off 2024

The UPSC Prelims is merely a screening stage where candidates must score above the UPSC Cut-Off 2024 to be shortlisted for the main stage. Candidates should note that the UPSC prelims cut off is only prepared for the GS 1 paper and not for the GS 2, i.e., CSAT paper.

UPSC Cut Off 2024 Mains

The next stage is UPSC Mains where approximately 15,000 candidates compete to cross UPSC Mains cut off. The minimum score that must be achieved to be considered for UPSC Mains Cut Off 2024 is 10% in each paper. UPSC Cut Off for the Mains exam is prepared for seven papers worth 1750 marks out of a total of 9 papers. The qualifying criteria for the remaining two papers is 25% marks out of 300 marks. The score of the UPSC Mains exam is also used for making the final merit list along with the marks of the UPSC personality test round. The final cut off is used to screen candidates for the merit list and is prepared out of 2,025 marks. Candidates whose names appear in the UPSC CSE final result are those who surpassed the final UPSC Cut Off 2024.

UPSC Cut Off 2024 Tie Breaking Rule 

While preparing the UPSC result, it is possible that two or more candidates have scored the same marks. In such cases, UPSC uses standard tiebreaking rules. The UPSC Cut Off 2024 tie-breaker rules are:
  • First Rule: Candidates who have scored comparably higher marks in the ‘Compulsory Papers’ and the ‘Personality Test’ combined will be ranked higher.
  • Second Rule: In case the score is still the same, then the candidate who is senior in age will be ranked higher.
