World UFO Day History 

The roots of World UFO Day can be traced back to the early 2000s. It was first organised by UFO researchers who believed that a special day should be marked to raise awareness about the subject of UFOs. While some people earlier observed it on June 24, most now accept July 2 as the official date.

July 2 is significant because it marks the anniversary of the Roswell Incident, which took place in 1947. In this event, a mysterious object reportedly crashed near Roswell, New Mexico. While the U.S. military claimed it was a weather balloon, many still believe it was a UFO. This incident played a major role in popularising UFO theories, leading to a global celebration.

What is UFO?

UFO full form stands for Unidentified Flying Object. It refers to anything in the sky that an observer cannot immediately recognise. While most UFOs later turn out to be aircraft, satellites, or natural weather events, some remain unexplained. A UFO does not necessarily mean a spaceship from another planet. 

It simply means that the flying object is “unidentified” at the moment. Many times, with investigation, these sightings receive logical explanations. But a small percentage of them remain mysterious even after analysis. In recent years, the term UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) has also been used, especially by government and military bodies.

This new term is more neutral and scientific. Many countries, including the United States, have admitted to tracking such phenomena without always having clear answers.

Famous UFO Incidents 

Throughout history, there have been several well-known UFO sightings that have sparked global attention:

The Roswell Incident (1947)

Possibly the most famous case, this incident involved the crash of an unknown object in Roswell, New Mexico. The military first claimed it was a "flying disc," but later said it was a weather balloon. Despite this, many believe it was a UFO crash and that the truth was covered up.

The Kenneth Arnold Sighting (1947)

Just days before the Roswell crash, pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine fast-moving objects near Mount Rainier in Washington. He described them as "saucer-like," giving rise to the term "flying saucer."

The Rendlesham Forest Incident (1980)

In the United Kingdom, military personnel reported seeing strange lights and objects near a military base in Suffolk. The sightings lasted over several days and involved trained observers, which gave the reports more credibility.

The Phoenix Lights (1997)

Thousands of people in Arizona reported seeing a massive V-shaped formation of lights silently passing over the sky. The official explanation was military flares, but many still believe otherwise.
