Solutions: to worksheet-2 Topic- Magnetism

Fill in the blanks

  1. Magnetic, Non-magnetic
  2. Unlike, Repulsion
  3. Poles
  4. Magnetic Needle
  5. Poles
  6. North, South

Answer in Brief:

  1. Round bars, rectangles, horse shoes, donuts, rings, disks etc.
    1. Magnetic materials:-
Materials which are attracted by a magnet are called magnetic materials. Example: Iron, cobalt, nickel and their alloys etc.
    2. Non magnetic materials: Materials which are not attracted materials. Example: Wood, glass, Aluminium, copper etc.
    1. Attractive properly: Magnets attract metals like iron, steel, nickel and cobalt.
    2. Directive property: A freely subtended magnet always points in the north-south direction.
    3. Likes poles repel and unlike poles attract.
    4. Poles exist in pairs.
  2. The magnetic force appears to be concentrated at or near the ends of the magnet. These areas are celled the magnetic poles exist in pairs.
  3. Magnets used in Televisions, computer disks, video tapes, to enable the crane in a metal scrap yard to pick up junk etc.
  4. The magnet is made in the shape of a horseshoe to bring the two magnetic poles close to each other, to create a strong magnetic field there.
