The syllabus includes social forestry, agroforestry, non-timber forest products, role of forests in soil and wildlife conservation, animal protection, wildlife conservation and management, and biodiversity in forests.

Weeds and their control: This topic includes the complete study of weeds, including weeds associated with crops and agricultural practices. It also involves the reduction in the yield of crops, soil nutrient uptake by weeds and methods of weed control, like manual and mechanical, chemical, and biological weed control. It also includes herbicides and their safe use in crop production.

Soil Science and Fertility

Soil Science and Fertility: Soil plays an important role in agriculture, and this subject includes information on the types of soil, soil fertility, soil nutrients, and their cycles. The syllabus includes soil and plant testing, organic manures, bio-fertilizers, chemical fertilizers, and soil salinity and alkalinity. This topic also consists of greenhouse gas emissions from soils.

Agricultural Extension

Agricultural Extension: This section of the syllabus covers information about the proper extension of information to the farmers and other people in the rural community. It consists of the farmer training program, the agricultural information dissemination program, rural development programs, and surveys. Students also learn to help the farmers through the mass media, demonstrations, and local people.

Genetics and Plant Breeding

All these techniques improve the crop production and develop disease and pest-resistant plant varieties.

Seed Technology: This subject includes the complete study of seeds as the starting point of agriculture. It covers seed quality, seed production, seed processing, seed certification, and seed marketing. The latest techniques in seed technology are also included like DNA fingerprinting and GMO seeds. The legal aspects, such as Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and WTO rules that impact seed use are also taught.

Plant Physiology

Plant Physiology: This subject deals with plant functions, the study of plant cells, and how they perform and contribute to the overall growth, survival, and reproduction of plants. Topics include photosynthesis, respiration, plant mineral nutrition, water relations, and plant stress responses, such as drought stress, salinity, oxidative stress, and nutrient stress. Horticulture

Horticulture: This subject covers the agricultural practice of producing fruits, vegetables, flowers, and medicinal plants. This subject also includes landscape, horticulture, floriculture, and spice and medicinal herbs cultivation.

Pests and Diseases

Pests and diseases: This section of the syllabus covers the identification and management of pests and diseases that can attack crops and plants. The topics include Integrated Pest Management (IPM), biological control, chemical pesticides, and quarantine procedures for controlling pests and diseases. The students also learn about pest life cycles, safe pesticide application methods and legal aspects related to pesticides.

Food Security and Nutrition
