Fumaric Acid Formula

Chemistry Formulas

The fumaric acid formula, also called the Allomaleic acid formula is discussed in this article. It is a dicarboxylic acid and conjugate acid fumarate. The molecular or chemical formula of Fumaric acid is C4H4O4.

It is a precursor to L-malate in the TCA cycle. Fumaric acid is produced by oxidizing succinic acid using succinate dehydrogenase. Fumarate is converted to malate by the enzyme fumarase. High levels of Allomaleic acid are present in biofluids around tumours or inside tumours.
