The combined word limit for the unseen passages is 600-750 words. The passage used for note-making is generally around 200-250 words, followed by a summary-writing task.

Section B: Grammar and Creative Writing Skills

The grammar component assesses students' ability to apply grammatical rules in context. It includes:

  • Transformation of sentences

Creative Writing

The writing component includes the following tasks:

Classified Advertisement: Students may be asked to prepare a short classified advertisement within the prescribed word limit.

Poster: Students may be required to design a poster of up to 50 words.

Speech Writing: Students need to write a speech in 120-150 words based on verbal or visual cues related to contemporary or age-appropriate topics.

Debate Writing: Students need to write a debate in 120-150 words based on visual or verbal inputs related to contemporary or topical issues.

Section C: Literature Syllabus

Literature carries 31 marks and is based on the prescribed Hornbill and Snapshots books.

The section includes:

  • Poetry extracts
  • Prose extracts
  • Short-answer questions
  • Long-answer questions
  • Analytical and evaluative questions
  • Questions requiring interpretation and critical thinking

Students may need to answer short questions in approximately 40-50 words and long-answer questions in 120-150 words, depending on the question.
