CUET 2025 Maths Compulsory For Delhi University?: Many students who are preparing for CUET 2025 and aiming for admission to Delhi University (DU) have one big question in mind: Is Mathematics or Applied Mathematics now compulsory for the BCom (Hons) programme? The answer is yes. DU has decided to make Mathematics or Applied Mathematics a mandatory subject for students who wish to pursue BCom (Hons).

Earlier, students had the flexibility to apply with Accountancy instead of Mathematics under Combination II. But this option has now been removed. This sudden change has left many students, especially those in Classes 11 and 12 who chose commerce without Mathematics, in a difficult situation. Many students are confused and worried about their eligibility for DU admissions. 

CUET 2025 : Maths Compulsory For Delhi University Overview

Delhi University has announced that from CUET UG 2025 onwards, students applying for BCom (Hons) must have Mathematics or Applied Mathematics as a subject. This change has been made to address the high failure rates in commerce courses at DU. However, students and experts are opposing this move, calling it unfair. With CUET UG 2025 just a few months away, many students have started raising their concerns on social media. They believe that implementing such an important change at the last moment is not fair.

CUET 2025 - Delhi University Admission Criteria Update

As per the latest Delhi University admission criteria, students applying for BCom (Hons) must appear for CUET 2025 with the following subject combinations:

  •   Any one language from List A
  • Mathematics/Applied Mathematics

  • Any two subjects (at least one from List B1)

Earlier, students also had the option of applying through Combination II, which included Accountancy/Bookkeeping instead of Mathematics. But now, with this option removed, many students are unsure if they can still apply for BCom (Hons) at DU.

CUET 2025: University-Wise Comparison from DU

Unlike Delhi University, other universities such as Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) do not have Mathematics as a mandatory subject for BCom (Hons). This means that commerce students who did not take Mathematics in Class 12 can still apply for BCom (Hons) at these universities. Maths Compulsory For Delhi University ? - Student Reactions and Concerns
