Key Changes in CUET UG 2025

Change

Details

Subject Selection Flexibility

Students can now choose subjects they did not study in Class 12, promoting interdisciplinary education.

Exam Mode

The exam will be fully Computer-Based (CBT), replacing the hybrid mode used in 2024.

Reduction in Subjects

The number of subjects has been reduced from 63 to 37, with admissions for removed subjects based on General Aptitude Test (GAT) scores.

Maximum Subject Selection

Candidates can choose up to five subjects, instead of six.

Standardized Exam Duration

Each subject test will last 60 minutes.

No Optional Questions

All questions are mandatory, ensuring uniformity across subjects.

Greater Flexibility for Students

This decision allows science students to opt for humanities or commerce subjects and vice versa, offering greater academic freedom. UGC Chairman stated that this step aligns with the New Education Policy (NEP) and is designed to empower students to explore diverse academic interests.

Example of How This Benefits Students:

  • A science student can now apply for economics or political science at the university level.

  • A commerce student can tae biology or computer science if interested.

Addressing Past Challenges

In previous CUET exams, many students faced restrictions due to subject limitations, preventing them from applying to courses they were interested in.

CUET UG’s first edition in 2022 faced technical issues and score normalization challenges. The shift to a fully CBT mode aims to ensure a smoother, glitch-free experience.

Impact on University Admissions

With these cuet new changes, universities will revise their admission policies to accommodate students applying for courses beyond their Class 12 subjects. It is recommended that candidates check individual university requirements before selecting subjects.
