What are Cubes 1 to 20?

Cubes 1 to 20 represent the values obtained when each number in this range is multiplied by itself three times. For example, the cube of 1 is 1 3 = 1 × 1 × 1, while the cube of 20 is 20 3 = 20 × 20 × 20 = 8000. These cubes are fundamental in mathematics and play a vital role in solving algebraic equations, finding patterns, and analyzing sequences. The smallest cube in this range is 1 3 = 1 , and the largest cube is 20 3 = 8000. Cubes are often represented using exponent form as x 3 , where x is the number being cubed. For instance, 3 3 = 3  ×  3  ×  3 = 27 and 10 3 = 10 × 10 × 10 = 1000. Learning cubes from 1 to 20 helps students develop quick problem-solving skills and improves their ability to handle mathematical calculations, especially in areas like geometry and algebra. The 1 to 20 cube values are often asked in competitive exams too.

Values of Cubes From 1 to 20: Important Points

  • The cube of 1 is 1, the lowest cube value for numbers 1 to 20 cube list.

  • The cubes of 10 and 20 are obtained by simply adding two zeros to the number.

  • The cube of all even numbers between 1 and 20 are even numbers.

  • The cube of all odd numbers between 1 and 20 are odd numbers.

  • When we divide the cube of a number by the number itself, the result is the perfect square of the number. For example, 8 ÷ 2 = 4 (since 2³ ÷ 2 = 2²).

  • Numbers ending with 0, 1, 4, 6, and 9 will have cube values ending with 0, 1, 4, 6, and 9.

Understanding these patterns helps you learn cube 1 to 20 better.

Cube of Positive and Negative Numbers

A positive number cubed remains positive because multiplying three positive numbers always gives a positive result.

Example:

3 3 = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 5 3 = 5 × 5 × 5=125

Cube of a Negative Number

A negative number cubed remains negative because multiplying an odd number of negative numbers results in a negative product.

Example:

( −3) 3 =(−3) × (−3) × (−3) = −27 (−5) 3 = (−5)×(−5)×(−5) = −125

This rule also applies while calculating the cube 1 to 20 values for negative numbers.

How to Calculate the Value of Cubes From 1 to 20?

There are two main methods to calculate the values of cubes from 1 to 20. Let’s explore each method with examples.

By Multiplying the Number by Itself

This is the simplest method to calculate the cube of any number. Multiply the number by itself thrice (three times). For example:
  • To find the cube of 2: 2  ×  2  ×  2 = 8
  • To find the cube of 5: 5  × 5 ×  5 = 125
This method works for all numbers, including those from 1 to 20.

By Using Algebraic Identities

Algebraic identities can simplify cube calculations, especially for larger numbers. One useful identity is: (a−b) 3 =  a 3 −  b 3 −3ab(a−b)

Example :

Find the cube of 9 : 9 3 = (10 − 1) 3 Using the identity: (a − b) 3 = a 3 − b 3 − 3ab(a − b) Here, a = 10, and b = 1 9 3 = (10) 3 − (1) 3 −3(10)(1)(10−1) 9 3 = 1000 - 1 - 270 9 3 =  729 This method is especially helpful when working with numbers close to a base value, such as 10.

Geometrical Interpretation of Cube of a Number

The cube value of a number can be related to the volume of a three-dimensional geometrical shape with six plain square faces. This particular shape is also called a cube. A cube's length, width, and height are of equal dimensions. If the length, width, and height of a cube have a value of  'a', then the volume of the cube will be calculated as V = (a  x  a  x  a), which is equal to a 3 This concept directly relates to the cube of 1 to 20 and is used often in geometry.

Calculation of Cube Using Algebraic Identities

A cube can be expressed in the form of algebraic entities. For example, if two integers are a and b, we can use the following expressions to find the cube.
  • (a + b)  x  (a + b)  x  (a + b) = (a + b) 3 . =  a 3 +  b 3 + 3ab (a + b)
  • (a - b)  x  (a - b)  x  (a - b) =  (a - b) 3 . = a 3 - b 3 - 3ab (a  -  b)
For example , let's take the number 15. We can use the above formula to get the cube of this number. We can write 15 = 10 + 5 So, (15) 3 . = (10 + 5) 3 . = (10) 3 +  (5) 3 + 3  x  10  x  5 (10  +  5) = 1000  +  125  + 150  x  15 = 1000  +  125  +  2250  =  3375

Cubes From 1 to 20 Solved Examples

1. If the sides of a cubical water tank are 17 cm, find its volume.

Solution:

The formula for the volume of the cube is a 3 , where 'a' is the side of the cube. Here, a = 17 cm So, the volume of the cubical water tank is V = (17) 3 =  4913 cubic cm.

2. Find the value of 3 times 8 cubes plus 5 times 14 cubes.

Solution: The expression will be: 3  x  (8) 3 +  5  x  (14) 3 = 3  x  512 + 5  x  2744 = 1536  +  13720 = 15256 So, the value of the expression is 15,256.

3. Find the volume of a sphere having a radius of 18 cm.

Solution:

The volume of a sphere is 4/3 x π x r 3 ,  where r is the sphere's radius. Here, r = 18 cm. So, volume of sphere = 4/3 x π x (18) 3 = 4/3  x  3.14  x  (18) 3 = 4/3  x  3.14  x  5832 = 4  x  3.14  x  1944  =  24416.64 cubic cm.

4. Find the cube of 32 using the cube table from 1 to 20.

Solution:

We can write 32  =  20 + 12 So, (32) 3 = (20 + 12) 3 = (20) 3 +  (12) 3 +  3  x  20  x  12 (20  + 12) = 8000  + 1728 + (720  x  32) = 8000 + 1728  +  20,040 = 32,768
