Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh Appointed as Commandant of National Defence Academy: In a significant leadership transition at the National Defence Academy (NDA), Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh has officially taken charge as Commandant, succeeding Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar. The change of command ceremony took place on 25th May 2024 at the NDA, Khadakwasla.

Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh Appointed as Commandant of National Defence Academy

• Vice Admiral Singh, a renowned alumnus of the NDA, began his illustrious career in the Indian Navy in July 1990. Over the years, he has served in various critical roles both at sea and onshore, showcasing his expertise as a specialist in gunnery and missiles.
• His notable naval appointments include serving on Indian Naval Ships Ranjit and Prahar.
• He has the unique honor of being part of the commissioning crew for three Indian-built warships: INS Brahmaputra as a gunnery officer, INS Shivalik as an executive officer, and INS Kochi as a commanding officer.
• Throughout his career, Vice Admiral Singh has commanded INS Vidyut and INS Khukri and has contributed to naval training as an instructor at INS Dronacharya (Gunnery School) and as the Deputy Commandant of the Naval War College in Goa.
• His staff roles include significant tenures at the Directorate of Personnel, where he served as the Assistant Chief of Personnel (HRD) and at the Directorate of Naval Intelligence.
• In November 2022, Vice Admiral Singh was appointed as the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, where he led the fleet in maintaining a high level of operational readiness.
• Upon his promotion to Vice Admiral in January 2024, he was appointed as Controller Personnel Service, spearheading initiatives to enhance the working conditions for naval personnel and their communities.

Role of Commandant of National Defence Academy
