IIT Delhi BDes admission 2025 is currently going on. The deadline for the 3rd round of admission to the BDes program at IIT Delhi for the academic year 2025-2026 is approaching. The admission process began on June 10, 2025, and candidates must complete the acceptance of seat allotment, choose between the FREEZE or FLOAT option, and pay the seat acceptance fee by June 14, 2025, at 6:00 PM. During this period, students must confirm their admission by paying the acceptance fees. Missing the deadline may result in losing the seat. IIT Delhi introduced the Bachelor of Design (BDes) program starting from 2022–2023. This 4-year undergraduate program is offered by the institute's Design Department, which was established in 2017. The admission is based on the UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design) score. Only 20 students are selected each year for this program.
The B.Des. curriculum covers major design domains including:
Product Design
Interaction Design
Communication Design
The program mixes design thinking, creativity, and technical skills to prepare students for different design careers.
You can apply for the design program, but students must meet certain criteria. Below are the IIT Delhi BDes eligibility requirements:
Students must pass their 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects. Other subject combinations are also accepted at IIT Delhi. This gives more students a chance to apply for the program.
All students must take and pass the UCEED exam. UCEED stands for Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design. This exam tests how well students understand design concepts and creative thinking.
There are age limits, too. Students must be born on or after October 1, 2000(for General/OBC/EWS). Students from categories must be born on or after October 1, 1995(for SC/ST/PwD).
You can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times in consecutive years.
The IIT Delhi BDes cutoff changes every year based on how students perform in the UCEED exam. The cutoff rank tells us the last rank that got admission to the program.
In recent years, the cutoff ranks have been a bit competitive. For the General category, the closing ranks were around 35-41 in different admission rounds. This means only students who score very well in UCEED get selected.
Different categories have different cutoff ranks. SC category students needed a rank of 10, while ST category students needed a rank of 6 in recent admissions. These numbers help students understand their chances of getting selected.
The IIT Delhi UCEED cutoff varies for different rounds of admission. The college conducts multiple rounds to fill all 20 seats in the program.
In 2024, the General category cutoff was ranked 32-35 across different rounds. The EWS category had a cutoff of rank 8. OBC students needed a rank of 26-35 to get admission.
The cutoff ranks vary by category, with the OBC-NCL closing rank around 28, SC at 11, and ST at 8 in Round 3 of 2025.
This shows a slight increase in the cutoff rank in 2025 compared to 2024, reflecting competition and seat availability trends. Students should remember that these cutoff ranks can change each year. The difficulty of the UCEED exam and the number of students taking it affect these numbers.
The IIT Delhi B Des syllabus closely matches the structure of UCEED. Students learn:
Design Thinking and innovation
Drawing and Sketching Techniques
Visual Communication
Product and System Design
Human-Centered Design
Sustainable Design
Design Research and Methods
Digital Tools for Design
Language and creativity
The goal is to build both creative thinking and practical design skills.
