Has the Number of Attempts Increased for JEE Advanced 2025?

Yes, the number of attempts for JEE Advanced 2025 was initially increased from two to three, as per an update from officials a few weeks ago. However, on November 15, 2024, the JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria was revised. The official notification from the Joint Admission Board (JAB) confirmed that the number of attempts for JEE Advanced has been restored to its previous limit of two, as per the criteria followed since 2013. This change was made after considering various factors during the JAB meeting. All other eligibility criteria remain unchanged. In addition, the age limit for applicants applying for JEE Advanced 2025 is set for those born on or after October 1, 2000. However, applicants from the SC, ST, and PwD categories are eligible for a five-year age relaxation, meaning they must be born on or after October 1, 1995. Updated JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Requirements

The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025 have been updated with a few key changes. For the reference of interested applicants, here's an overview of the revised requirements:
  • Top 2.5 Lakh Applicants in JEE Main 2025 : Applicants must be among the top 2,50,000 successful applicants (across all categories) in the BE/BTech paper (Paper I) of JEE Main 2025. The number may slightly exceed 2.5 lakh in cases where there are "tied" ranks or scores in any category.
  • Category-wise Shortlisting Percentages : The shortlisted percentages vary by category, ensuring fair representation across different groups. These are the guidelines for how many applicants from each category will be considered for JEE Advanced 2025.
    • 10% for GEN-EWS
    • 27% for OBC-NCL
    • 15% for SC
    • 7.5% for ST
    • 40.5% OPEN for all Within these categories, there is a 5% horizontal reservation for PwD applicants.
  • OCI/PIO Applicants : OCI/PIO candidates who secured their card before March 4, 2021, will be considered Indian nationals for IIT seat allocation. However, they will not be eligible for any reservation benefits, except for the OPEN-PwD category.

  • Class 12 (or Equivalent) Examination Requirements : Students must have appeared for the class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Those who appeared for class 12 before 2022 are not eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2025 unless their board declares the results after September 21, 2022.
  • IIT Admission Restrictions : Applicants who have already been admitted to an IIT under any academic program listed in the JoSAA Business Rules of 2024 or earlier are not eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2025. However, students admitted to preparatory courses in 2024 or who did not report to an IIT after being allocated a seat are eligible.
