JEE Main 2025 Registration Tie-Breaking Policy

JEE Main 2025 Registration Tie-Breaking Policy : The National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened registrations for JEE Main 2025 , starting on October 28, 2024 and closing on November 22, 2024. Alongside this announcement, NTA introduced a significant change to the tie-breaking rules for the exam. Previously, age was used as a criterion to break ties between applicants with the same scores.

However, in JEE Main 2025, this age-based factor has been removed, meaning that the calculation of ties will no longer consider an applicant's age. JEE Main 2025 Registration Tie-Breaking Policy Overview

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has updated its tie-breaking policy for JEE Main 2025, bringing a few important changes for applicants. Previously, if aspirants scored the same total NTA score in Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.), their age or application number were considered to decide who would rank higher. However, this is no longer the criteria. NTA has now removed these age- and application-based criteria, and if applicants remain tied even after the other rules are applied, they will be given the same rank. Here is how the updated tie-breaking process will work:
  • Mathematics Score: Applicants with a higher NTA score in Mathematics will be given priority.
  • Physics Score: If the tie persists, applicants with a higher NTA score in Physics will be ranked higher.
  • Chemistry Score: If there’s still a tie, the NTA score in Chemistry will be used to decide.
  • Correct-to-Incorrect Ratio in All Subjects: If the applicants still remain tied, the one with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers across all subjects will get priority.
  • Correct-to-Incorrect Ratio in Mathematics: Next, the applicant with a lower proportion of incorrect to correct answers in Mathematics will be preferred.
  • Correct-to-Incorrect Ratio in Physics: If needed, the applicant with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers in Physics will be prioritized.
  • Correct-to-Incorrect Ratio in Chemistry: As a final step, the applicant with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers in Chemistry will be given priority.
If a tie still remains after all these steps, candidates will now be assigned the same rank. This revised tie-breaking process simplifies the ranking system by removing age and application number as factors, ensuring a fairer approach for applicants with equal scores. • Applicants eligible for a scribe, reader, or lab assistant are granted a minimum of 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour of the exam.
  • Those with benchmark disabilities who qualify for the use of a scribe are eligible for an additional hour for a three-hour exam, even if they don’t use a scribe.
  • For exams shorter than one hour, compensatory time will be calculated proportionally, with a minimum of 5 minutes provided in multiples of 5.
