CLAT Consortium 2024: The CLAT Consortium, also known as the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs), is a group of 24 NLUs that organizes the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). It was established on August 19, 2017, to improve legal education in the country and ensure better coordination among national law universities.
The Consortium has become well-organized, effective, and transparent in conducting the national-level law entrance exam over the years. Its governing body comprises vice-chancellors of all participating NLUs. The main goal of the Consortium is to conduct the CLAT 2024 exam for undergraduate and post-graduate programs of these NLUs and promote quality legal education in all member institutions.
The CLAT Consortium is a group of 24 NLUs that have united with the common goal of enhancing legal education in India to match global standards. Their efforts have led to several top NLUs being considered equivalent to prestigious institutions like the IITs for engineering and the IIMs for management education.
Earlier, the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) was managed by different National Law Universities on a rotating basis. However, to improve CLAT and make it more organized, transparent, and effective, and to uplift legal education across the country, about 18 NLUs teamed up and created the Consortium of National Law Universities, also known as the CLAT Consortium, on August 19, 2017. Later, four more universities joined the CLAT Consortium. Presently, all NLUs except National Law University, Delhi, are part of the CLAT Consortium. NLU Tripura and GNLU Silvasa are new NLUs and have recently become part of the consortium.
This table below shows the different universities that are part of the CLAT Consortium along with the number of seats they offer in their 5-year LLB programs, total LLM seats, total CLAT seats, and details about All India and domicile seats.
