CLAT Counselling 2025 Likely to Begin Soon

CLAT Counselling 2025: The CLAT counselling 2025 is anticipated to commence soon following the Delhi High Court's hearing on March 3, 2025. The court is reviewing multiple petitions regarding discrepancies in the exam results, which have caused significant delays in the counselling schedule. The next hearing is set for April 7, 2025, where a decision on the potential revision of the results will be made. The CLAT 2025 was held on 1st December 2024 with counselling due in the second week of December 2024.

The delay in the CLAT counseling 2025 is due to legal challenges questioning the accuracy of the CLAT final answer key 2025. Recently, the Supreme Court has transferred all related petitions to the Delhi High Court to avoid conflicting judgments and maintain consistency. This ongoing legal scrutiny has left many aspirants anxious about their admission prospects into various National Law Universities (NLUs).

What are the Legal Disputes Against CLAT 2025?

The CLAT 2025 (Common Law Admission Test) is currently embroiled in legal disputes due to alleged discrepancies in the CLAT final answer key, which candidates claim contain multiple errors. Following the exam held on December 1, 2024, several petitions were filed challenging the validity of the results, prompting the Delhi High Court to intervene. The Supreme Court later centralized these cases, transferring them to the Delhi High Court for a uniform resolution, with a crucial hearing scheduled for April 7, 2025. This ongoing legal battle has caused significant anxiety among students, impacting their admission prospects to National Law Universities (NLUs).

The CLAT counselling for the UG and PG was slated to begin from 9th December 2024, but due to alleged discrepancies against the CLAT final answer key, the process got delayed.

It is likely that after the hearing on 7th April 2025, the road gets clear for the counseling process to commence. According to the latest notification published on the official website at consortiumofnlus.ac.in, “the fresh calendar to be announced after our SC appeal process and expected relief”.

  • CLAT counselling 2025 will consist of five rounds, with each round involving the publication of a merit list and seat allotment based on candidates' preferences. There will be three options, i.e., Freeze, Float, or Exit in the CLAT counselling.
  • Candidates satisfied with their allotted seat and are not willing to participate in further counselling rounds, can “Freeze” the seat allocation.
  • “Float” option is for those who accept their current seat but wish to remain eligible for better options in subsequent rounds, with the understanding that if a new seat is allotted, the previous one will be forfeited.
  • “Exit” option in CLAT counselling enables candidates to withdraw from the counselling process entirely, resulting in no further consideration for seat allocation and the forfeiture of any confirmation fees paid.

Impact of Legal Disputes on CLAT Aspirants

Legal disputes surrounding the CLAT 2025 exam, stemming from discrepancies in the answer key, have created uncertainty and anxiety among aspirants. The Delhi High Court's involvement, including directing result revisions, has led to delays in the counselling and admission processes. These delays impact candidate rankings, seat allotments, and cut-offs at National Law Universities (NLUs). The ongoing legal proceedings necessitate that candidates closely monitor court decisions, as the final verdict will dictate the future of their admissions.
