FMGE 2026: FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is an exam for Indian and OCI students who studied MBBS in another country and want to work as doctors in India. This exam is held by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) two times every year.

FMGE is an online exam with 300 questions in English. To pass, students must get at least 150 marks out of 300. After passing the exam, students get a certificate from NBEMS. With this, they can register with the National Medical Commission or State Medical Council to start working as doctors in India.

What is FMGE?

FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is a special test for Indian and OCI students who studied MBBS in another country and now want to work as doctors in India. This exam is organized by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).

FMGE started in 2002 and is not for getting college admission. It is only for getting permission (license) to work as a doctor in India. The exam happens two times a year—usually in June and December. Students can try the exam many times if they don't pass the first time.

FMGE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

FMGE 2026 is for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who have done their medical studies in another country.

  • Who can apply: Only Indians or OCIs.

  • What you need: A medical degree (like MBBS) from a foreign college that is approved by the Indian Embassy and follows Indian medical rules.

  • Documents: You must show proof of your medical degree. These papers must be signed and checked by the Indian Embassy or office in that country.

Who doesn’t need FMGE: Students who studied in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, or the USA may not need to take this exam, but they must show proper documents to prove their degree and registration.

FMGE 2026 Registration

FMGE 2026 registration will be done online only on the official NBE website: natboard.edu.in. The application form for the June session may come out in the 2nd week of March 2026. The last date to apply will be in the 1st week of April 2026.

FMGE 2026 Exam Pattern

The FMGE 2026 exam pattern is designed to evaluate the medical knowledge of foreign medical graduates through an online computer-based test (CBT). The exam consists of 300 multiple-choice questions divided equally into two sections. Each part lasts 2 hours, with 2 marks awarded for every correct answer and no negative marking, and the entire exam is conducted in English.

FMGE 2026 Admit Card

The FMGE 2026 admit card for the June session will be available in the 1st week of June 2026, and for the December session in the 2nd week of December 2026. Candidates need to log in to the FMGE portal at natboard.edu.in, find the “FMGE 2026 Admit Card” section, and download it.

FMGE 2026 Result

The FMGE 2026 results will be announced soon for both the June and December sessions. Candidates can check their results by logging into the official NBE portal using their credentials, as results will not be sent by post or email. Scorecards will be available for download approximately one week after the results are declared. Qualified candidates must personally collect their pass certificates from the NBE office by submitting the required original documents. This certificate is necessary to apply for provisional registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the respective State Medical Council (SMC) to legally practice medicine in India..
