NMC CBME Guidelines Reverses Decision on 40% Passing Marks for MBBS Subjects

NMC CBME Guidelines 2023 New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC), the regulatory authority in India, has recently made an important announcement regarding amendments to the Competency-Based Medical Education Curriculum (CBME) Guidelines. This development pertains specifically to MBBS subjects with two papers and has significant implications for medical students in the country.

NMC CBME Guidelines 2023- Amendment Reversal

In a recent notification, the National Medical Commission (NMC) clarified its position on the passing marks for MBBS subjects with two papers. The NMC reversed a prior decision, which required students to secure a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate across both papers. The NMC has reinstated the passing threshold to 50%. The NMC's official notification on this matter can be accessed on their website at nmc.org.in.

Amendments in NMC CBME Guidelines

The National Medical Commission (NMC) amended the NMC CBME Guidelines on page 58 to reduce the passing mark to 40% for subjects with two papers. However, after careful consideration, the NMC decided not to implement this change retroactively. The amended guidelines now require students to attain a minimum aggregate mark of 50% across both papers to pass the subject. The revised guidelines on page 58 state that students must secure a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (both papers combined) to pass a subject with two papers. Additionally, candidates must obtain at least 50% marks in the university-conducted examination separately in both theory and practical components, including practical/clinical assessments and viva voce, to be declared as passed in that subject.
