CBSE Class 9 Curriculum 2026-27: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revised the Scheme of Studies for students entering Class 9 in the 2026-27 academic session. Under the updated provisions, certain subjects and learning modules will not be included in the curriculum for this batch. These changes will also apply when the same students move to Class 10 in the 2027-28 academic session.
The board has clarified that the subject Individuals in Society, along with the modules on Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), will not be included in the Class 9 curriculum for 2026-27. In addition, Environmental Education will not be part of their Class 10 curriculum in 2027-28.
However, Vocational Education will remain compulsory. Students will also continue to have access to other optional subjects listed under the applicable Scheme of Studies. The latest update is important for students, parents and schools planning subject choices for the upcoming academic sessions. Students can also check the latest CBSE Class 9 new rules for 2026-27 for further details.
CBSE has clarified that the changes are being made to align the introduction of the revised curricular areas with the board's implementation schedule. As a result, the following subjects and modules will not be included for the specified batches:
| Subject / Module | Revised Provision |
| Individuals in Society | Will not be included in Class 9 in 2026-27 |
| Computational Thinking (CT) | The module will not be included in Class 9 in 2026-27 |
| Artificial Intelligence (AI) | The module will not be included in Class 9 in 2026-27 |
| Environmental Education | Will not be included in Class 10 in 2027-28 |
These changes are specifically applicable to students studying in Class 9 during the 2026-27 academic session and progressing to Class 10 in 2027-28. Students currently studying in Class 10 in 2026-27 will continue to follow the existing Scheme of Studies.
For a broader understanding of the changes that will affect the next board examination batch, students can read about the revised CBSE Class 10 Board Exams 2028 scheme and subject requirements.
Although certain curricular areas have been excluded, Vocational Education will continue to be a compulsory subject for students studying in Class 9 in 2026-27 and Class 10 in 2027-28.
To meet this requirement, students will have two options:
Kaushal Vikas: Students can choose Kaushal Vikas (Skill Development). Assessment for this subject will be conducted internally by the school.
Skill Subjects: Students can select any one of the 22 skill subjects notified by CBSE. Those choosing a skill subject will have to appear for its examination during the Class 10 board examinations in the 2027-28 academic session.
Therefore, students should carefully consider their options while selecting the vocational subject, as the assessment method will depend on their choice. They can also explore the CBSE Class 9 syllabus 2026-27 to understand the subject-wise curriculum and available learning areas.
CBSE has clarified that the other optional subjects available under the 2025-26 Scheme of Studies will continue to be offered to students in Class 9 in 2026-27 and Class 10 in 2027-28.
This means that the removal of the specified subjects and modules will not affect the availability of all other optional subjects under the applicable provisions. However, students should confirm the subjects offered by their respective schools before making their selections.
Students can refer to the CBSE Class 9 academic resources and study material for additional information about the curriculum, subjects and preparation resources.
With the revised provisions, students in the affected batches will be required to study nine subjects. These include languages, core academic subjects, Art Education, Physical Education and Well-being, and Vocational Education.
The complete list is provided below:
