Reservation in BPSC: An important factor of the process in BPSC is reservation, which gives applicants from communities equal opportunities. In accordance with the Bihar government's affirmative action policies and constitutional mandates, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) implements a specific percentage of reservation.

Percentage of Reservation in BPSC

Eligibility for Reservation in BPSC

Candidates must make sure they fulfil the qualifying requirements listed in the official aBPSC recruitment notification in order to be eligible for the reservation. The following are the requirements to be eligible for a reservation at BPSC:
  1. Category in BPSC Reservation List: Candidates whose caste, community, or group is listed on the BPSC reservation list as published in the official gazette by the Bihar government.
  2. Non-creamy Layer Certificate: Candidates in the OBC category must be from the non-creamy layer and provide documentation proving their eligibility.
  3. Income & Asset Certificate: This pertains to EWS candidates, who need to possess the necessary I&A certificate for the relevant fiscal year and evidence of income below the government-imposed cap.
  4. Valid Certificate to Claim: As evidence of their qualifying requirements, candidates who are SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, or ex-servicemen must possess valid certificates issued by the relevant government authorities.

How to Apply for Reservation in BPSC?

To apply for a reservation at BPSC, there is no special form or link. In order to apply for or claim a reservation in the subsequent process, candidates must choose their appropriate category on the BPSC application form. The following are the fundamental requirements to apply for a reservation:
  • On the BPSC Prelims application form, choose your category.
  • In order to be verified during the DAF I and personality test, make sure you have all the necessary paperwork.
  • Once submitted, the category—including PwBD type—cannot be altered under any circumstances.
  • After submitting their application, candidates in the general category will not be permitted to switch to another category.

Reservation in BPSC for OBC Category

BPSC offers good reservations to candidates who are from the non-creamy layer of the Other Backward Classes (OBC). In light of this, OBC candidates are eligible for the following relaxation:

Reservation in BPSC for EWS Category

According to the 2019 103rd Constitution Amendment Act, BPSC has a 10% reserve for the EWS category. According to this, candidates who belong to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the general category with an annual income of less than Rs.8 lakhs are eligible for reservation.
