Human Rights Day was formally established in 1950 by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. It was drafted in the aftermath of World War II to ensure that such atrocities would never occur again. Eleanor Roosevelt, chair of the drafting committee, played a key role in shaping this declaration. United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is an intergovernmental body within the UN responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world. Established in 2006, it replaced the UN Commission on Human Rights. UNHRC consists of 47 member states elected by the United Nations General Assembly. The council holds regular sessions to review human rights situations, address abuses, and make recommendations.
