Sex Ratio at Birth:
Increase to 937 (2020-21) according to HMIS data, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (April-March, 2014-15 & 2020-21)
- Lowest Sex Ratio in India : The lowest sex ratio is found in states like Haryana (879 females per 1,000 males) as per census 2011.
- Highest Sex Ratio in India: Kerala holds the highest sex ratio in India (1,084 females per 1,000 males).
- Under Five Child Mortality (Female): This stood at 33 in 2019 per 1,000 live births. (Source: SRS Census India.gov.in)
- Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER): The GER for females in higher education stood at 2.07 crore in 2021-22 (AISHE).
- Nutrition: The latest NFHS-5 (2019-21) report shows stunting decreasing from 38.4% to 35.5%, wasting from 21.0% to 19.3%, and underweight prevalence from 35.8% to 32.1%.
Government Initiatives for Girl Child
The Indian government has introduced several initiatives to uplift the status of girls. These include:
- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP): Launched in 2015, this initiative aims to improve the child-sex ratio and promote girls' education.
- Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY ): This savings scheme encourages parents to save for their daughters' education and marriage.
- Balika Samridhi Yojana (BSY): The program provides financial support to families with girl children, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

- Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG): Launched in 2010, this scheme provides nutritional support to girls aged 11–14 who are not in school.
