UPSC 2024 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the UPSC exam candidates must be eligible according to the criteria mentioned in the notification. The below-mentioned UPSC eligibility criteria must be fulfilled by the candidate to apply for future exams: Nationality: To apply for IAS, IFS, and IPS services candidates must be a citizen of India. For the remaining services candidates must be either Indian or:
  • A subject of Nepal/Bhutan or
  • A Tibetan refugee (came before 1st January 1962 intending to permanently settle in India) or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or the East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zaire, Malawi, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.
However, such candidates must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Indian Government. Education: The minimum educational qualification for the UPSC 2024 exam is a graduate degree or equivalent qualification from any university recognized by the government. Candidates in the final year of their bachelor's degree can apply, but they must have the required documents by the specified date . Physical Standard: Candidates applying for IPS and IFoS services must meet physical fitness requirements.

UPSC 2024 Age Limit

The age of the candidate must not be less than 21 years and not more than 32 years on the 1st of August of the year a candidate is applying. While there is no relaxation in the minimum age limit, certain categories are provided upper age relaxation in the UPSC age limit as per government regulations. UPSC age limit relaxation is as follows:

UPSC 2024 Attempt Limit

The number of attempts in the UPSC exam is limited. UPSC attempt limit is set at 6 for eligible candidates except in case of relaxation to certain categories by the government. The attempt is counted when candidates appear in any one paper of the prelim examination. Here is category wise number of attempts allowed in the IAS exam:

UPSC 2024 Application Process

The UPSC application form for the 2024 exam was released on February 14. The application process for the UPSC exam is online through the OTR process. The UPSC application form is usually available online for each stage of the examination. The UPSC application process is as follows for future cycles:
  1. The UPSC CSE prelim application form is released on the official website at https://upsconline.nic.in/.
  2. Candidates complete the One-time registration (OTR) and fill out Part 1 and Part 2 of the application form of UPSC.
  3. After the registration process is complete, the UPSC correction facility opens to allow rectifying a few errors in the form.
  4. UPSC Mains application form also known as DAF 1 is released for shortlisted candidates after the prelim exam is completed.
  5. Finally, selected candidates in the main stage are required to fill out DAF 2 which is the UPSC application form for the personality test stage.

UPSC Selection Process 2024

The selection process for the UPSC 2024 exam includes three stages followed by document verification by DoPT. Every stage of the UPSC Selection Process 2024 is distinct in requirements making this examination highly challenging. Here is the UPSC CSE selection process:
  • Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Qualifying in nature).
  • Stage 2: Mains Examination (Marks included in merit list).
  • Stage 3: Personality test (Scores considered for merit list).

UPSC 2024 Admit Card

Once the application process for the respective stage is completed UPSC issues admit cards to eligible candidates. The UPSC admit card is released online at "https://upsconline.nic.in/eadmitcard" separately for all three stages. Candidates must download the UPSC admit card from the official website and carry the hard copy on the exam/interview day. Here is how to download the admit card for the UPSC exam from the official website for the next stage:
  • Visit the official website of UPSC.
  • Locate the download link of the e-admit card for the UPSC CSE 2024 exam.
  • Click on the link, now provide the roll number and date of birth in the respective column.
  • The UPSC hall ticket or admit card will be displayed.
  • Verify the information mentioned in the IAS admit card and click on the download option.
  • Print at least 2 clear copies of the official admit card for the UPSC exam.

UPSC 2024 Exam Pattern

The UPSC exam is conducted in three steps, each of which has a different exam pattern. Candidates must be updated with any changes in the UPSC exam pattern as it plays a significant role in preparation. The stage-wise UPSC 2024 exam pattern is as follows:

UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2024

The UPSC Prelims exam is qualifying in nature. Candidates are required to attempt two compulsory papers. The UPSC prelims question papers are objective type. Candidates must attempt OMR-based papers of 200 marks each.
  • The duration of the UPSC prelims exam is 2 hours for each paper.
  • The language of UPSC prelims question papers in Hindi and English.
  • Paper 1 is General Studies which is considered for cut-off purposes.
  • Paper 2 is CSAT which is qualifying in nature and candidates must score 33% marks to be eligible for the UPSC prelim cut-off.
  • There is a negative marking of 1/3rd marks for the wrong attempt in both question papers.

UPSC Mains 2024 Exam Pattern

After getting shortlisted in the prelims stage, candidates will need to appear in the UPSC mains exam. Unlike the prelims exam, the mains examination is descriptive in nature, and marks of this stage are counted for the final merit list.
  • There are a total of 9 papers worth 1750 marks in the UPSC mains examination.
  • There are two compulsory qualifying papers, Paper A of the Indian Language and Paper B of the English language.
  • The copies of candidates who do not score passing marks in Paper A and Paper B will not be checked for remaining exams.
  • Candidates will need to choose one optional subject for Paper VI and Paper VII.
  • The duration of each paper of the UPSC mains exam is 3 hours.

UPSC Interview 2024

The UPSC Mains results for 2024 are expected to be announced soon, after which the notification for the Personality Test (commonly known as the UPSC Interview) will be issued. This UPSC interview is the final stage of the examination process and carries a total of 275 marks. Candidates who have been shortlisted based on their Mains performance will be required to appear before the UPSC Interview Board on the scheduled date.
