The UPSC Civil Services Examination 2026 has reached its final selection stage, with 2,526 candidates qualifying for the Personality Test after clearing the Mains examination. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had shortlisted 13,343 candidates for the Mains examination after the Prelims result.
Based on these figures, approximately 18.93% of candidates who qualified for Mains have progressed to the Interview stage. In simple terms, around 19 out of every 100 candidates who cleared Prelims and entered Mains have reached the final stage of the examination.
The conversion rate is calculated by comparing the number of candidates shortlisted for the Personality Test with the number of candidates who qualified for the Mains examination.

Conversion Rate = (Candidates Qualified for Interview / Candidates Qualified for Mains) × 100
= (2,526 / 13,343) × 100 = 18.93%
Therefore, approximately 19% of candidates who qualified for the UPSC Prelims 2026 and appeared in the Mains selection stage have progressed to the Personality Test. Candidates can also check the total number of candidates who cleared UPSC Mains 2026.
UPSC declared the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 result on 15 June 2026. According to the Commission's official press release, 13,343 candidates were shortlisted for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026.
The Commission had notified 1,016 vacancies for the Civil Services Examination 2026. The 13,343 figure refers specifically to candidates shortlisted for the Civil Services Mains examination. It does not represent the total number of candidates who registered for or appeared in Prelims.
The same result announcement also included a separate list of 1,046 candidates shortlisted for the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) Main Examination. These candidates should not be added to the Civil Services Mains figure while calculating the CSE conversion rate.

UPSC announced the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 result on 5 November 2026. A total of 2,526 candidates have qualified for the Personality Test (Interview).
The Mains examination was conducted from 21 August to 30 August 2026. Candidates whose names or roll numbers appear in the result lists are eligible to proceed to the Personality Test, subject to verification of their eligibility and supporting documents.
The interview is the final stage of the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Candidates can check the UPSC Mains Result 2026 and the qualified candidates list for further details.
The 18.93% conversion rate shows how many candidates moved from the Prelims-qualified group to the Interview stage. It means that approximately 1 in 5 candidates who qualified for Mains progressed to the Personality Test.
However, this is a stage-wise conversion rate, not the overall success rate of all UPSC applicants. It does not include candidates who registered for Prelims but did not qualify for Mains.
It is also important to understand that qualifying for the Interview does not guarantee final selection. The final merit list will be prepared based on candidates' performance in the Mains written examination and the Personality Test, along with the applicable selection rules and vacancies.
Candidates shortlisted for the Personality Test should now focus on completing the required formalities and preparing for the Interview.
