Vadhavan Port is a Greenfield project located in the Dahanu taluka of Maharashtra’s Palghar district. This mega port is strategically located on the western coast of India and offers direct access to major international shipping routes.
According to officials, once completed the Vadhavan Port will be a game changer for the country. It is expected that its four terminals will be completed by 2029 and the remaining five will be added by 2034 to double the container capacity of India.Vadhavan Port Project
The Vadhavan Port is an ambitious project that was conceptualized back in 1991-92. However, it officially took shape on June 5, 2015, when a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to develop it as a Major Port under the Indian Ports Act of 1908 . Currently, India has 12 Major Ports , two of which are located in Maharashtra. The addition of Vadhavan Port is expected to enhance the state’s position as a key maritime hub and boost India’s overall port capacity. With an estimated cost of 76,000 Crore , this port is projected to be finished by 2034 under the joint venture of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (74% stake) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (26% stake).
