DU Notification for Admission BCom (Hons): The University of Delhi (DU) has officially announced a major update for the 2025-26 academic year, allowing students who did not study Mathematics in Class XII to apply for the prestigious Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) program. This decision, released through the university's information bulletin on March 8, 2025, ensures that the Accountancy/Bookkeeping route for admission remains available, providing wider accessibility to aspiring commerce students across the country.
The latest notification from DU confirms that students who did not study Mathematics in Class XII are eligible to apply for the BCom (Hons) program for the 2025-26 academic year. This announcement has brought relief to many students who feared being left out of the admission process if the non-Mathematics pathway was discontinued.
Since the adoption of CUET-UG in 2022, DU has been following a two-subject combination system for admissions to various undergraduate programs. The two combinations include:
Combination 1 (Mathematics Route):
One language from List A.
Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.
Any two subjects from List B.
Combination 2 (Accountancy/Bookkeeping Route - Retained):
One language from List A.
Accountancy or Bookkeeping.
Any two subjects from List B.
The information bulletin clearly states the eligibility requirements for students seeking admission to the BCom (Hons) program:
Students must have qualified for their Class XII examination or its equivalent from a recognized board.
CUET-UG scores are mandatory for all undergraduate programs, except those offered by the School of Open Learning (SOL), Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB), and foreign nationals.
There was widespread concern among students and parents that the second subject combination system (Accountancy/Bookkeeping route) would be scrapped, which would have adversely affected students who did not study Mathematics in Class XII.
If the change had been implemented, such students would have been unable to apply for the BCom (Hons) program.
Experts suggested that if the policy change were to be introduced, it should be implemented from the 2026-27 academic session to provide ample time for students to prepare and plan accordingly.
Fortunately, the University of Delhi has decided to retain the Accountancy/Bookkeeping route for the 2025-26 academic year.
List A: Comprises 14 languages from which students can choose one language for the admission process.
List B: Includes 23 domain-specific subjects from which students can choose two subjects.
Students seeking admission to the BCom (Hons) program must follow the steps below:
Check Eligibility: Ensure that you have cleared the Class XII examination or its equivalent from a recognized board.
CUET-UG Score: Obtain a valid CUET-UG score as it is mandatory for admission.
Selection of Subject Combination: Choose the appropriate subject combination route (Mathematics/Applied Mathematics OR Accountancy/Bookkeeping) as per your Class XII subjects.
Apply Online: Complete the online application process through the official DU website within the specified deadlines.
For Non-Mathematics Students: The decision to retain the Accountancy/Bookkeeping route has provided relief and clarity.
For Future Applicants: The notification also suggests that any potential policy changes affecting this combination may be implemented from the 2026-27 academic session.
For Academic Planning: Students currently in Class XI can now plan their subjects accordingly if they wish to pursue BCom (Hons) in the future.
