NTA Relocates CUET UG 2025 Exam Centres for Meghalaya Students to Shillong: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the relocation of CUET UG 2025 exam centres for most Meghalaya students from Guwahati to Shillong, following an appeal from the Meghalaya government.
The decision addresses concerns over the logistical and financial challenges faced by students who were initially assigned exam centres in Assam. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma confirmed the update on March 24, 2025, thanking NTA officials and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their support. This move ensures that students, especially those from remote areas, can take the CUET UG 2025 closer to home, reducing travel burdens and associated expenses.
Meghalaya Chief Minister took to X (formerly Twitter) on March 24, 2025, to announce the development. He expressed gratitude to NTA officials and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their support in addressing the students' concerns.
On March 17, 2025, the Meghalaya Chief Minister made an appeal to the Ministry of Education and NTA, urging them to allocate exam centres within the state. "Requested @EduMinOfIndia & @NTA_Exams to intervene in allotting #CUET examination centres within Meghalaya for our students. Many students are being assigned Guwahati centres, causing inconvenience. Hopeful that the issue will be resolved. @dpradhanbjp."
Following this, on March 24, he posted an update: "Happy that NTA has shifted most of the students of Meghalaya from Guwahati centre to Shillong centre after the intervention of the State Government. Thank the officials of NTA and Hon’ble @dpradhanbjp ji for his continuous support and understanding."
The initial CUET UG 2025 exam centre allotment had placed many Meghalaya students in Guwahati, Assam, which led to significant concerns. The key issues students faced included:
Long-distance travel to Guwahati, particularly for students from remote areas.
High financial burden due to transportation and accommodation costs.
Safety concerns associated with traveling far from home.
Several student organizations, along with the Meghalaya state education department, actively pushed for local exam centres, ensuring students could appear for the exam without undue hardship.
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2025 is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the NTA. It is crucial for undergraduate admissions in central, state, deemed, and cuet private universities across India. CUET UG streamlines the admission process, offering students a single-window opportunity to apply to multiple universities with one entrance test.
The decision to shift CUET UG 2025 exam centres from Guwahati to Shillong has been widely welcomed by students, parents, and educators. It ensures:
Reduced travel burden for students, especially those from rural areas.
Lower financial costs as students don’t need to travel long distances.
Improved accessibility to examination centres within Meghalaya.
