The National Institute of Design (NID) has released the Admissions Handbook 2027-28 for the 5.5 Year Professional Education Master of Design (Integrated Pathway) and B.Des. programmes. As per the handbook, the NID DAT Prelims 2027 examination will be conducted on Sunday, December 20, 2026. The online application process started on September 10, 2026, and the last date to submit the application form is November 30, 2026, up to 11:59 pm IST.

The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is conducted in two stages. The first stage is DAT Prelims, followed by DAT Mains for candidates shortlisted on the basis of their DAT Prelims performance. A single application form is submitted for both stages. The Prelims score is used for shortlisting and is not carried forward as weightage to the DAT Mains stage.

NID DAT Prelims 2027 Registration

The NID DAT Prelims Registration 2027 process is conducted online through the official NID admissions website. You need to register before proceeding to the application form.

The registration process includes the following steps:

  1. Visit the official NID admissions website.

  2. Select the Programme of Study, Nationality, and Category.

  3. Enter a valid email address and active mobile number.

  4. Complete OTP validation through the registered email ID and mobile number.

  5. Use the login credentials sent to your registered email address.

  6. Log in using the registered email ID, date of birth, and password.

  7. Fill in the required details in the application form.

  8. Upload the required photograph, signature, and applicable certificates.

  9. Pay the application fee.

  10. Save and print the automatically generated application form.

The registered email ID and mobile number will be used for future communication. NID states that the candidate's name, programme applied for, date of birth, registered email ID, and registered mobile number cannot be changed at any stage.

The application form is considered complete only after successful payment and when you can view, download, or print the auto-generated application form.

The NID DAT Prelims Application 2027 fee varies according to the candidate category.

For Indian nationals, the fees mentioned in the handbook are:

  • General, GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL: Rs. 3,000

  • SC and ST candidates: Rs. 1,500

The NID DAT Prelims admit card 2027 is scheduled to be available from 4 pm on 10 December 2026. You need to download and print it from the official NID admissions website.

The reporting time will be mentioned on the admit card. A separate digital or hard-copy admit card will not be provided. The duration of the Prelims test will also be announced through the admit card.

NID DAT Prelims Result 2027

The NID DAT Prelims result 2027 is scheduled for 4 pm on 16 March 2027. The result will be declared on the official NID admissions website, and your score will be available for viewing.

The scorecard remains available for 20 days from the date of result declaration. You should download and preserve a copy for future reference. No separate digital or hard-copy scorecard will be provided.

The Prelims score is used for shortlisting candidates for DAT Mains. The Mains stage consists of a Studio Sensitivity Test and an In-Person Sensitivity Test. The Mains schedule and admit card details will be announced later.
