What is an Artisan Category?

An artisan is a skilled craft worker who creates material objects such as furniture, clothing, jewelry, or decorative art, primarily by hand, often blending functionality with artistic beauty. Artisans are recognized for their creativity, manual dexterity, and mastery of traditional or specialized techniques, producing unique or small-batch items using time-honored methods. 

At NIFT, there is a special provision for admission of candidates who are artisans themselves or children of artisans, with at least one parent employed under the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) or Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) of the Ministry of Textiles or a state government. Candidates have to meet the prescribed requirements of age limit and educational qualification before applying for admission. 

NIFT Admissions 2025 for Artisan Category Important Dates

The registration for the NIFT Admissions 2025 for Artisan Category commenced on 22nd November 2024. The last date to submit the application form was 28th February 2025. The exam dates for skill test, personal interview, and document verification will be notified soon by the exam authorities. 

Steps to Apply for NIFT Admissions 2025 for Artisan Category

Candidates can follow the given steps to fill out the application form for NIFT Admissions 2025 for Artisan Category. 

• Go to the NIFT admission website or the National Testing Agency (NTA) portal at exams.nta.ac.in/NIFT. 
• Click on the link for NIFT 2025 registration and fill in basic details such as name, gender, email ID, and mobile number to complete the initial registration. 
• An application number will be generated, and you will need to create a password.
• Log in using your credentials and provide detailed personal, academic, and communication information.
• Upload required documents, including the Artisan Photo Identity Card issued by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms/Handicrafts) or the Ministry of Textiles.
• Pay the required application fee. 
• Submit the form and download the confirmation page for future reference.

NIFT Admissions 2025 for Artisan Category Application Fee

The application fee for NIFT Admissions 2025 under the Artisan Category is payable online during the application process through the official NIFT or NTA portal. The Artisan Category is specifically for candidates who possess an Artisan Photo Identity Card issued by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms/Handicrafts) or the Ministry of Textiles. 

NIFT Admissions 2025 for Artisan Category Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the BDes courses for Artisan category are as follows. 

Age Limit

• The maximum age should be less than 24 years as of August 1, 2025. A relaxation of 5 years is allowed for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), or Persons with Disability (PWD) categories.

Educational Qualification

• Candidates must have passed the 10+2 level examination from any recognized Central or State Board, such as CBSE, State Boards, or Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi. 
• Alternatively, a pass in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with at least five subjects, or an equivalent examination recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, is acceptable.

Artisan Identity

• Candidates must submit a valid Artisan Photo Identity Card issued to themselves or their parent (father/mother) by the Development Commissioner (Handicraft) or Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, or the respective State Government. 
• Candidates who have applied for the Artisan Card before the prospectus launch date (November 22, 2024) are also eligible.
