The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination used to test the aptitude of engineering candidates for admission to postgraduate engineering programs. The tests are spread across three different sections - General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and the core Mechanical Engineering topics. The General Aptitude section has 15 questions that carry a weightage of 15%, while the Engineering Mathematics section carries 13% of the test weightage with 17 questions. The remaining 72% of the weightage is shared equally by all the core Mechanical Engineering topics.
