GATE Civil Engineering Section-Wise Marks Distribution

The GATE CE paper is divided into General Aptitude and the subject component. The subject component carries 85 marks, which includes 13 marks for Engineering Mathematics and 72 marks for Civil Engineering.

While the marks allotted to each section are fixed, the number of questions in Engineering Mathematics and Civil Engineering may vary depending on the distribution of 1-mark and 2-mark questions. 

GATE Civil Engineering Paper Pattern 2027

The GATE CE exam is conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode with a duration of 180 minutes. The paper consists of 65 objective-type questions carrying 100 marks, and there is no sectional time limit, allowing you to manage your time freely.

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

• Each MCQ carries either 1 mark or 2 marks.

• Every question has four answer options, with only one correct answer.

Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)

• One or more options may be correct.

• You must select all the correct options.

Numerical Answer Type (NAT)

• You must enter the numerical value as the answer.

• Questions carry either 1 mark or 2 marks.

• No answer options are provided.

The questions are designed to assess different cognitive skills, including Recall, Comprehension, Application, and Analysis & Synthesis, ensuring that you are evaluated on both conceptual understanding and problem-solving ability.

In the GATE CE 2027 examination, questions carry either 1 mark or 2 marks. You should understand how marks are awarded and where negative marking applies. 

Since MSQs and NAT questions do not carry negative marking, you can attempt them without the risk of losing marks. However, MCQs should be answered carefully to avoid unnecessary deductions.
