What is CAT Score 2024?

The CAT score refers to the total marks a candidate achieves in the examination, which consists of three sections:
  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)
  • Quantitative Aptitude (QA)
Each section contributes to the overall score, which is calculated based on the following marking scheme:
  • +3 points for each correct answer
  • -1 point for each incorrect answer
  • No penalty for unanswered questions
The maximum possible score in the CAT exam is 198, as there are 66 questions distributed across the three sections. The raw scores from each section are summed to produce the total CAT score.

What is CAT Percentile 2024?

The CAT percentile indicates the percentage of candidates who scored less than or equal to a particular candidate. For example, if a candidate achieves a percentile of 99, it means they performed better than 99% of all the test-takers that year. This metric is important because it helps assess a candidate's performance relative to others, providing context for individual scores within the larger group of applicants.

Calculation of CAT Percentile 2024

The calculation of CAT percentile involves several steps:
  1. Determine Total Candidates : Identify the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam.
  2. Assign Ranks : Rank all candidates based on their scaled scores, which account for variations in difficulty across different exam slots.
  3. Calculate Percentile : Use the formula:

How to Compute CAT 2024 Percentile?

CAT scorecard includes percentile achieved by the candidates. IIM computes percentile scores based on the total number of candidates who attempted the exam and each candidate’s scaled score. Here’s the formula for calculating the CAT 2024 percentile: P = N-r N 100 Here,
  • P represents the candidate's percentile.
  • r denotes the rank assigned to candidates based on their scaled scores.
  • N is the total number of candidates who appeared for CAT 2024.

Note:
  • The final percentile (P) is rounded to two decimal places. This method helps in the proper ranking of candidates.
  • Candidates with identical scaled scores will receive the same rank. For instance, if two candidates achieve the highest scaled score in CAT, both will be assigned rank 1. Thus, the score vs percentile for CAT also represents CAT Score Vs Rank 2024.

CAT 2024 Score Calculator

The Composite Score for the Common Admission Test (CAT) is an important metric used by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other business schools to assess candidates for admission. This score combines various factors, including the candidate’s CAT exam performance , academic history , and other personal attributes.

Key Components of Composite Score Calculation

The composite score is based on several parameters, which may vary between IIMs. The main components include:
  • Scaled CAT Score : The raw CAT score is normalized to account for differences in test difficulty across sessions. This scaled score is a key factor in shortlisting candidates for admission.
  • Academic Performance :
    • Class 10 Marks
    • Class 12 Marks
    • Graduation Score : These scores are weighted and included in the composite score calculation.
  • Work Experience : Relevant work experience can add to a candidate’s composite score , reflecting their professional background.
  • Diversity Factors :
    • Gender Diversity
    • Academic Diversity : These factors support a diverse student body in IIM programs.

Formula for Composite Score Calculation

While each IIM may use a slightly different formula, the general approach for composite score calculation is as follows:

Composite Score = w₁ Scaled CAT Score + w₂ Class 10 Marks + w₃ Class 12 Marks + w₄ Graduation Score + w₅ Work Experience + w₆ Diversity Factors

Where w₁, w₂, w₃, w₄, w₅, and w₆ are the weights assigned to each component based on each institution’s criteria.

Percentile Calculation

The CAT percentile reflects a candidate’s relative performance compared to all other test-takers. The calculation involves:
  1. Determining the total number of candidates ( N ).
  2. Assigning ranks ( r ) based on scaled scores .
  3. Calculating the percentile (P) using the formula:

P = (1 − r/N) × 100

This percentile shows the percentage of candidates who scored lower than the individual candidate.
