Candidates are able to choose the courses and institutions that best suit their needs. They have the ability to make changes, add, or remove options. Before the deadline, lock their last selections.

All India Rank (AIR) and candidate preferences are used to determine seat distribution. The seat allocation list will be posted on the official website by MCC.

Step 5: Report to the Assigned College

To verify their documents, candidates must report to the designated institution. Failure to act accordingly will result in the cancelation of their seat.

Types of NEET Counselling 2025

There are three main types of counselling under NEET 2025. Each serves a different group of students based on the type of institution or course.

All India Quota Counselling

This counselling is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). It covers 15% of government medical college seats in each state (except Jammu and Kashmir), and 100% seats in Central Universities like AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU, AMU, and Deemed Universities. It also includes ESIC medical colleges and BSc Nursing seats.

Students from all over India can take part in this counselling, no matter which state they belong to. It is open to all NEET-qualified students.

State Quota Counselling

This counselling is done by state governments. It covers 85% of the government medical and dental seats in each state and 100% of private college seats. Students who are eligible as per the state rules (such as domicile, residency, etc.) can apply.

Every state will publish its own notification, schedule, and application form. Students must apply separately on the state counselling website. The process is similar to MCC counselling, but rules like reservation and document verification may differ.

AYUSH Counselling

This counselling is for students who want to take admission in AYUSH courses such as BAMS (Ayurveda), BHMS (Homeopathy), BUMS (Unani), and BSMS (Siddha). The counselling is done by the AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC). NEET score is also used for admission in these courses.

Students must register separately on the AACCC website for AYUSH counselling. The counselling process is the same as MBBS and BDS.

NEET 2025 Counselling Rounds

The counselling process is conducted in multiple rounds. Each round gives students a chance to get a better seat if they were not satisfied earlier.

Round 1

  • First round where students fill choices and get allotted seats based on their NEET rank and preferences.

  • If they like the seat, they can accept it and report to the college.

  • If they don’t report, the seat is cancelled.

Round 2

  • Students who didn’t get a seat in Round 1 or want to upgrade can participate.

  • Students must register again and fill new choices.

Mop-Up Round

  • For students who didn’t get any seat in Round 1 or 2.

  • Only for Central Universities and Deemed Universities.

  • No fresh registration for those who already joined a seat in previous rounds.

Stray Vacancy Round

  • Last round for remaining vacant seats.

  • Conducted by respective colleges under MCC supervision.

  • No fresh registration, only reporting.

AIQ vs State Counselling – What’s the Difference?

There are two different procedures for allocating medical and dentistry seats: State Quota counseling for NEET and AIQ (All India Quota). The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) administers AIQ, which consists of all seats at Deemed Universities, Central Universities, AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, and AFMC in addition to 15% of seats in government medical institutions across India. The remaining 85% of government medical seats and all private medical college seats in a state are part of the State Quota, which is administered by the state authorities.

NEET Counselling 2025 Eligibility Criteria

To participate in NEET counselling, students must meet certain eligibility rules. These rules are based on marks, subjects studied, age, and nationality.

  • Students must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English as core subjects. General category students must score at least 50% marks in PCB, while SC/ST/OBC students need 40%, and PwD students need 45%.

  • The age of the student must be 17 years or above by 31st December 2025. There is no upper age limit for appearing in NEET.

  • The student must also qualify the NEET 2025 exam by scoring the minimum qualifying percentile. For the general category, it is the 50th percentile, for SC/ST/OBC, it is 40th percentile, and for PwD (general), it is 45th percentile.

  • Only students who meet all these conditions will be allowed to register for the counselling.
