The UGSO syllabus is based on the science concepts covered in the student's current grade. It takes into account curriculum standards followed by boards such as CBSE and ICSE, along with other educational curricula.
Students should focus on understanding science concepts rather than only memorising textbook information. The syllabus broadly covers:
Scientific concepts
Practical applications of science
Observation and analysis
Problem-solving
Logical reasoning
Scientific reasoning
Data interpretation
Natural processes
Analytical thinking
Higher Order Thinking Skills
For example, a student studying in Class 3 will be tested on concepts relevant to the Class 3 level.
The marking scheme for UGSO 2027 is based on the two sections of the examination. Students should understand the marks assigned to each section before beginning their preparation.

For students in Classes 2 to 10, ranks are determined using the following criteria:
The total marks obtained in the examination are considered first.
If two students have the same marks, the student who completes the examination in less time is ranked higher.
If the tie continues, the younger student based on date of birth is ranked higher.
Since the Olympiad can be conducted across different sessions with different question papers, final ranks are determined after normalisation across sessions.
If students have the same result after applying the applicable criteria, they receive the same rank.
In case of any issue or confusion regarding ranking, the decision of the Academic Council will be final and binding.
UGSO for KG and Class 1 is parent/teacher-assisted. Therefore, no ranks or percentile will be declared for these students.
Students who score more than 60% will receive a Certificate of Excellence and Medal. All participants will also receive a digital Certificate of Participation.
Unicus provides different awards and certificates based on student performance. For participants from Classes 2 to 10, the recognition includes:
Overall top 3 participants in each subject from Grades 2 to 11 will receive the Scholar's Trophy and Certificate of Excellence.
Top 3 participants from every school with more than 25 participants in a class will receive a Gold Medal and Certificate of Excellence.
Students in the top 10% overall or those with a zonal rank of 10 or lower will receive a Gold Medal and Certificate of Excellence.
Students in the top 25% will receive a Certificate of Excellence.
Students between the top 25% and 50% will receive a digital Certificate of Appreciation. School-registered participants will receive a hard copy.
The remaining participants will receive a digital Certificate of Participation.
If a student meets two or more award criteria, the higher award will be given.
For KG and Class 1, students scoring more than 60% will receive a Certificate of Excellence and Medal. Other participants will receive a digital Certificate of Participation.
Students should keep the required equipment and examination environment ready before starting the UGSO exam.
Use a laptop or desktop to take the examination.
Keep a working webcam available.
Ensure a stable internet connection.
Use an updated web browser.
Take the exam from a quiet and suitable place.
Mobile devices cannot be used for the examination.
The examination will be conducted online and will be proctored.
KG and Class 1 students can receive parent or teacher assistance.
Preparation for UGSO should focus on understanding concepts and applying them to different situations. Students can use sample papers, previous year papers, mock tests, quizzes, and answer keys as part of their preparation.
Start by identifying the science concepts covered in your current grade. Understanding the syllabus helps you organise topics and create a suitable preparation schedule.
Prepare a study schedule according to the available time before the examination. Give sufficient time to concept revision, practice questions, and mock tests.
Sample papers and previous year papers help students become familiar with the question format and types of questions asked in the examination. Regular practice can also help improve time management.
Mock tests and MCQ quizzes allow students to practise application-based and reasoning questions. Reviewing mistakes after each test can help identify topics that need more attention.
The examination includes questions that require students to apply concepts, interpret information, observe situations, and reason through problems. Therefore, focus on understanding the logic behind a concept instead of relying only on memorisation.
The Unicus Global Science Olympiad result will be available through the participant dashboard after the examination process is completed.
Students can use the dashboard to access their examination performance and applicable award or certificate information. Ranks and percentiles will not be declared for KG and Class 1 because these examinations are parent/teacher-assisted.
For students in Classes 2 to 10, ranking will be determined according to the applicable ranking criteria.
The UGSO 2027 answer key is scheduled to be released on January 28 and January 29, 2027.
Students can use the answer key to compare their responses with the correct answers and review their performance. It can also help students identify the concepts or question types that require further practice.
