The changes will not affect the IELTS certification's global quality or reliability.

The structure, questions, and results of the paper and online exam versions are the same, according to separate statements released on Tuesday by the British Council and the International Development Program of Australian Universities and Colleges (IDP).

Vietnam to scrap paper-based IELTS tests after March 29

On Tuesday, the British Council and IDP announced that paper-based IELTS tests in Vietnam will be phased out after March 29, with the tests moving only to computer-based formats. Computer-based IELTS tests have considerable advantages, such as faster results (in around two days), more convenient scheduling, and the ability to take tests as late as one day before registration ends, depending on location and date. Candidates can take advantage of more frequent exam dates as well as the One Skill Retake (OSR) option, a new computer-only feature that enables them to retake one section of the test. Additionally, digital IELTS was designed to assist applicants only, allowing them to focus entirely on their test and achieve maximum effectiveness.

According to the British Council

The British Council reports that IELTS has moved to computer testing in some areas to improve flexibility, convenience, and efficiency for test takers. "This change will enable faster result delivery, more test dates, and an easier testing process - all while keeping the same strict standards for quality and equality that IELTS is known for," according to the organization. Applicants who register for paper-based IELTS tests after March 29 will be notified by test centers and provided the following options: a free shift to the computer-based IELTS test , a free reschedule to a paper-based test on or before March 29 or a complete refund of the test money. The most popular English proficiency exam in the world for postgraduate courses and international migration is the IELTS certification. Over 12,500 universities throughout the world recognize the score, including educational organizations, recruiters, governments, and professional associations. Many Vietnamese universities accept IELTS diplomas instead of English proficiency test scores.

Q2 - Is paper-based IELTS still available?

Ans - From March 9, 2025, all IELTS tests will be conducted exclusively on computers, providing candidates with a quicker, more efficient, and simplified testing experience. IELTS on Paper and IELTS on Computer share similar test formats, questions, and scores.
