FMGE December 2023 exam will be held on January 20, 2024, as per the official NBEMS exam schedule. Therefore there is limited time available for the FMGE preparation and one of the major issues candidates will be facing is paucity of time.
To ace the exam one of the most important aspects is time management. Dr. Himanshu Gupta, the radiology faculty at PW Med Ed has solved this puzzle for medical graduates by providing a guide to make a perfect timetable for FMGE preparation. By following these guidelines candidates can do sufficient revision and practice for the exam in the available time.
Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a Medical Screening Test which is conducted by the National Board Of Examinations In Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for medical graduates who completed their primary medical degree from outside India. FMGE is organized in two sessions, the June and December.
Those candidates who score 150 marks out of a total of 300 marks are issued the Pass Certificate. Clearing FMGE is a mandatory requirement to get registration from the National Medical Commission (NMC) and State Medical Councils. In addition, the FMGE Pass Certificate is also required in NEET PG and INI CET exams from candidates with medical degrees from abroad.
MCI conducts the FMGE exam to maintain uniform medical standards in India. Given the rigorous nature of the exam, candidates must leave no stone unturned in their preparation.
The FMGE exam date is scheduled for January 20, 2024, for the December session of 2023 as per the NBEMS exam calendar. Candidates have limited time available to prepare for the December session. Dr. Himanshu Gupta has highlighted the importance of revision and solving the grand test or full-length mock tests to ace the upcoming exam.
For the 2024 year, the exam date is announced for the June 2024 session. Candidates who will be eligible to apply for the FMGE 2024 June session should start preparing immediately covering the major section of the syllabus . Begin with understanding the exam pattern to prepare for the exam.
Most of the aspirants do not give the required attention to the timetable. Candidates should understand that proper planning is an indispensable part of the FMGE preparation. They spend hours thinking about the subject to be completed on the given day wasting precious time.
Many times aspirants pick a subject, study it for a few hours, and then drop it after getting bored. It is a serious problem with those candidates who do not have a timetable for FMGE preparation . As quoted by Dr. Himanshu Gupta,
‘If You Fail to Plan, You Are Planning to Fail’.
When aspiring candidates have a timetable they are careful about every single minute. A proper strategy guides students giving a constant reminder of left out topics. Timetable pushes sincere students to complete the syllabus in time before the exam.
Candidates can decide how much time is required to be allocated to a particular subject, how many hours should be spent on revision, and at what time they must practice by making a timetable. A good timetable can be the ultimate guide to success in the exam.
Candidates are constantly worried about how to cover the syllabus, what should not be missed, and which is the best strategy for FMGE preparation. Dr. Himanshu Gupta strongly advises students to make an advanced study plan devoting maximum time to revision.
Students should make a timetable for the long-term and the short-term. The long-term timetable should focus on months in which the syllabus will be covered and days allotted for solving mock tests and revision of weak areas.
According to Dr. Gupta, revision is the most crucial and challenging part as candidates find it hard to go through the same topic again and again. This is why he recommends devoting a minimum of three hours to revision. He suggests aspirants start the day with revision before proceeding to the new topic.
Candidates can then pick a new topic by referring to the theory books, videos, or notes. Make short notes while going through any mega topic of the FMGE syllabus . It will aid in the revision process. As per Dr. Himanshu, candidates should allot 6 hours to the theory section.
Another major part of the FMGE exam preparation is practice, candidates should not be hesitant in solving the MCQs or attempting grand tests. Dr. Himanshu Gupta advises students to allot a minimum of three hours to practice MCQs as ultimately the FMGE question paper is objective type in nature.
Candidates can either practice MCQs of previously learned topics or attempt a full-length mock test at night before going to sleep. This will help in comprehending the learned information facilitating better recall on the exam day.
