Health Equity Meaning, Training, And Ways to Achieve

Health equity is about allowing everyone to be as healthy as possible. But sometimes, things that people can't control stop them from being as healthy as they can. This might be things like being mistreated or needing more resources.

It ensures everyone gets the same chance to see a doctor, use health services, learn about staying healthy, and more. It means everyone has an equal right to be healthy. It assumes everyone is treated the same.

Health Equity Meaning

Health equity means everyone has a fair chance to be healthy.  This includes getting the best healthcare regardless of background, money, race, or gender. It's about ensuring everyone gets the same treatment at being healthy, no matter who they are.

Services that Promote Health Equity

Health equity is encouraged in various ways, and government organizations design many services to promote it. These include the following:
  • Giving health classes to different racial groups' needs.
  • Offering cheap services to people in low-income families.
  • Bringing health checkups to people who can't travel easily.
  • Having doctor's appointments at night for people who work late.

India and Health Equity

India is working hard for health equity, so the government has launched various projects to work on it. The details are mentioned below:
  • India started the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in 2005 to improve primary healthcare in rural areas.
  • The National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) was launched in 2013, focusing on improving health conditions, especially in urban slums.
  • These two missions combined are now called the National Health Mission (NHM).
  • India has been working to strengthen its primary healthcare system.
  • The NHM aims for health equity as its core principle.
  • The main goal of the National Health Ministry 2017 is to improve the concept of universal health coverage (UHC) in India.
Health equity aims to provide everyone with the same resources and opportunities and focuses on supporting individuals' specific needs to ensure equal access to care. Social determinants of health, such as race, gender identity, socioeconomic status, and location, can impact health outcomes. By educating themselves, raising awareness, and appointing advocacy groups, individuals can contribute to promoting health justice and removing these disparities. Preparing for NEET PG 2024?
