Paper Difficulty: The difficulty level of the INMO paper significantly impacts the cut-off marks. If the paper is particularly challenging, the cut-off might be lower, and vice versa.
Number of Participants: The number of students participating in the INMO can affect the cut-off. A larger number of participants might lead to a higher cut-off due to increased competition.
Regional Quotas: The selection process includes regional quotas, where a certain number of students are selected from each region. This can influence the overall cut-off marks as it ensures representation from different areas.
Category-Based Selection: INMO has different categories (e.g., Category A for classes 8-11, Category B for class 12, and Category AG for girls in classes 8-11). Each category has its own cut-off, which can vary based on the performance of students within that category.
Tie-Breaking Criteria: In cases of ties, scores from previous rounds like the Pre-RMO are used to break ties. This can affect who qualifies and thus indirectly influences the cut-off.
Historical Trends: Past trends in cut-off marks can also influence expectations for future cut-offs. If previous years have seen higher or lower cut-offs, this can set a precedent for what might be expected in the current year.
Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria, such as age limits and educational qualifications, can also impact the pool of candidates and thus affect the cut-off marks.
Qualifying for the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) 2026 offers several benefits to students:
Scholarships and Financial Support:
NBHM Scholarship: Students can apply for a National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) scholarship worth Rs 2,500 per month if they pursue a career in mathematics.
KVPY Fellowship: Qualifiers are eligible for the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) fellowship, which pays Rs 4,000 per month if they continue scientific studies in India.
Educational Opportunities:
Admission to Prestigious Institutions: INMO qualifiers are eligible for direct interviews for B. Stat or B. Math courses at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and can secure a seat in the B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics course at the Chennai Mathematical Institute without needing to take the usual entrance exams25.
International Representation:
International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO): Top performers from INMO are selected to represent India at the IMO, which is a prestigious international event45.
Training Camps: Qualifiers are invited to attend the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) for intensive preparation.
Recognition and Awards:
Certificates and Prizes: Students receive certificates of merit and may receive cash prizes for achieving high ranks, such as Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000, and Rs 3,000 for gold, silver, and bronze medals at the IMO.
Annual Cash Awards: Special interest-based awards are available for students interested in mathematics but not studying it as a subject.
Career Advancement:
National Recognition: Qualifying for INMO adds significant value to a student's academic profile, enhancing future career opportunities.
