Key Features of the Canal Bank Solar Power Project

The Canal Bank Solar Power Project stands out due to its unique location and sustainable design. Here are the main highlights:

  • Location: The project is situated along a 2 kilometer of the main canal at Bikram in Patna district.

  • Capacity: It has an installed capacity of 2 megawatts.

  • Land Utilization: The solar panels are spread over 5.7 acres of land provided by the Water Resources Department.

  • Implementation Model: The project follows the RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) model, where a private third-party firm is responsible for installation, operation, and maintenance.

  • Objective: The primary goal is to generate clean energy while making optimal use of canal banks, which are often underutilized.

The RESCO Model: Public Private Partnership in Action

The Canal Bank Solar Power Project has been set up using the RESCO model. In this model, a private company is responsible for designing, installing, running, and maintaining the solar power system. The government pays the company for the electricity it produces. This helps the system run smoothly without the government needing to spend a lot of money at the start. This model also helps involve private companies and speeds up the use of renewable energy in government projects.
