Top Commerce Entrance Exams After Class 12th

After completing class 12th in commerce stream, students are eligible to attempt most undergraduate commerce entrance exams in India. Whether students want to pursue a bachelors degree course in finance, business, economics, or management, it is essential to qualify for the right commerce stream entrance tests. Here’s a list of the top entrance exams for commerce students:

Common University Entrance Test (CUET)

CUET is the national level UG entrance exam that serves as a gateway to enroll in UG courses across numerous universities in India. It is administered by NTA once annually. This exam is conducted in a computer-based format in over 500 locations globally.

To be eligible for the CUET UG exam, students must have passed the Class 12 exam from a recognised board. The exam consists of three sections, each carrying 50 MCQs. Students get 60 minutes to complete each section.

Section 1 of the CUET exam tests candidates’ aptitude, reasoning, and general awareness and is similar for all the courses. However, Section 2 includes questions based on students’ course preference, while Section 3 assesses language proficiency and is also chosen based on the course and university requirements. 

For commerce aspirants, the CUET section 2 comprises subjects such as Economics, Accountancy, Business Studies, and Mathematics. For each correct answer, students receive +5 marks, and one mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.

IPMAT 

IPMAT is a highly sought after commerce entrance exam after 12th. Those who clear IPMAT get the opportunity to study integrated 5-year BBA and MBA programs from IIMs. IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak conduct their separate IPMAT exams once annually. 

To be eligible for the IPMAT exam, candidates must complete their class 12 with at least 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Both IPMAT exams are held online through the CBT format. The table below presents the exam pattern of both IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak:

NPAT by NMIMS

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) conducts NPAT to select candidates for its undergraduate and integrated courses like BBA, B.Com (Hons), B.Sc. Finance, and B.Sc. Economics. This entrance exam for commerce students is held once every year.

To be eligible for NPAT, students must complete their 10+2 with at least 50% marks. Additionally, they must have studied Mathematics or Statistics at the 12th-grade level for most programs UG commerce courses.

The NPAT exam is held in online mode through the CBT format. The paper consists of a total of 120 questions that are equally divided across three sections, namely Quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, and logical reasoning. Students get a total of 100 minutes to answer the questions, and for each correct response, +1 mark is added. However, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Symbiosis Entrance Test 

Symbiosis International University conducts the SET for shortlisting candidates for admissions into various commerce and economics-based undergraduate programs. These include BBA and B.Sc. Economics. 

This is one of the most preferred after 12th commerce competitive exams. Students who clear the 12th class with a minimum of 50% score, 45% for ST/SC students, are eligible for SET. Major areas tested in SET include English Proficiency, Quantitative Skills, Logical & Analytical Thinking, and General Knowledge.

The SET exam consists of 60 MCQs and candidates get 1 hour time to complete the exam. For each correct answer students receive +1 mark and 0 for unattempted and incorrect answers.

Christ University Entrance Test (CUET - Christ)

Christ University administers its own entrance test for commerce streams UG programs like BBA and B.Com with multiple specialisations. The test evaluates candidates' readiness for university-level business education.

Candidates must have passed Class 12 from a recognised national or international board to be eligible for the Christ University Entrance Trust. The exam consists of a total of 120 questions which candidates need to answer in 2 hours. The sections included in CUET exam are English, GK, Accounting, Reasoning, Mathematics, and Data analysis. However, the weightage of each section varies based on the course selected by the student. 

St. Xavier’s BMS Entrance Test

St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, conducts the BMS entrance exam specifically for its Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) program. It's one of the preferred entrance exams for commerce students who want high-quality business education in reputed institutions.

To be eligible for St. Xavier’s BMS entrance test, students must have completed Class 12 from any recognised board. This entrance exam is conducted through a remote proctored online test. Candidates need to complete a total of 100 questions in 2 hours. 

The BMS entrance test consists of five sections. These are English Comprehension, Data Interpretation, Logical & Visual Reasoning, General Knowledge, and Critical Thinking. For every correct answer, candidates receive +1 mark and 0 for incorrect answers or unattempted questions.
