What is Cutoff Marks : The JEE Main Cutoff 2023 has been published by NTA. You can check the JEE Main cutoff for different years here and find out the minimum marks needed to qualify for the JEE Advanced exam. Also, you can check the category-wise JEE cutoff below to understand the starting and ending ranks for college admission.

JEE Main cutoff has two types – qualifying cutoff and admission cutoff. The qualifying cutoff of JEE Main 2023 is the minimum score required for JEE Main 2023 candidates to be eligible for JEE Advanced . The admission cutoff of JEE Main 2023 includes the initial and final ranks for each institute and is disclosed by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority).

To qualify for JEE Advanced 2023, candidates must achieve the category-wise cutoff of JEE Main 2023, which should be more than or equal to. Only those candidates meeting the JEE Main qualifying cutoffs can take the JEE Advanced for admission to IITs in India. Candidates need to secure minimum ranks (closing ranks) for admission to JEE Main participating institutes. The admission cutoffs for all participating institutes will be released after each JoSAA counselling round.

What Is Cutoff Marks in JEE Mains?

What Is Cutoff Marks in JEE Mains? : There are actually two types of cutoff marks in JEE Mains:
  • Qualifying cutoff: This is the minimum score you need to get to qualify for the next stage of admissions, which could be JEE Advanced for IITs or JoSAA counselling for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The cutoff varies based on your category (General, OBC, SC, ST, PwD) and the year you took the exam.
  • Admission cutoff: This is the rank you need to get in JEE Mains to secure admission to a specific institute and branch. It varies depending on the institute, branch, and category. You can find this information in the official JoSAA counselling brochure.
Remember, these are just the minimum scores. To have a better chance of getting into your desired college, you should aim to score much higher than the cutoff.

Factors Affecting JEE Main Cutoff Marks

  • The level of exam difficulty.
  • The number of candidates who took the exam.
  • The total seats in the colleges.
  • Scores needed to qualify in the last year's JEE Main.

JEE Main Cutoff Types

The JEE Main cutoff comes in two types. First is the JEE Main qualifying cutoff, released by the NTA. Second is the JEE Main 2022 admission cutoff, released by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for the participating institutes.

The JEE Main 2022 qualifying cutoff is the lowest score candidates need in the entrance exam to qualify for JEE Advanced 2022. Meanwhile, the JEE Main 2022 admission cutoff is the lowest mark candidates need for admission to NITs, IIITs, CFITs, and other government or private institutes taking part in the process.

Difference Between Cutoff and Qualifying Marks

How to Get Admission to NIT through JEE Main?

Students who achieve scores equal to or higher than the JEE Main cutoff , and also secure at least 75% in their Class 12 board exams (65% for Reserved Category candidates), will be deemed eligible for admission to NIT through JEE Main. This process involves taking part in the centralised counselling conducted by JoSAA.

To get into various technical institutes, applicants need to secure a position within the specified range of ranks for different undergraduate programs available at NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs. Admission Criteria for Colleges

Since 2017, Class 12 marks have not played a role in calculating JEE Main cutoff scores. Admission to undergraduate courses in NITs, IITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) is solely based on ranks achieved in the IIT JEE exam. However, to secure admission to IITs, NITs, and other CFTIs, besides meeting the JEE Main passing marks , students must have attained at least 75% in their Class 12 board exams (or 65% for reserved category candidates) or be within the top 20 percentile of their respective Board Examinations.

In the last three years, there has been a decrease in the cutoff marks for JEE Main. According to experts, the reduction in the required cutoff marks for NITs from the year before last to last year was mainly because the maths section became more challenging. Additionally, more candidates qualified for the Advanced level of the entrance exam.
