What is IIM: IIM is the most renowned and competitive B-school in India . There are a total of 21 IIM centres located in various cities of India. IIMs offer a range of postgraduate management programs, including MBA, MBA for Working Professionals , Executive MBA , PGP, PhD, and FPM.
Each IIM consistently ranks among the top 50 B-schools as per the MHRD-NIRF rankings. Admission to the IIM MBA/PGP programs is primarily offered through the CAT exam . However, some IIMs also consider candidates’ GMAT scores for admission to executive MBA and other programs. What is IIM Course?
The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) provide a diverse range of educational offerings, including postgraduate, doctoral, and executive programs. Provided below is the overview of various management programs offered by IIMs:- MBA/PGP : The flagship program across all IIMs is the two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP). This program is recognised as equivalent to traditional MBA degrees. This two-year full-time course is highly regarded and aims to strengthen candidates’ managerial skills in the professional field.
- EPGP : The Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) is available at nearly all IIMs. This management program is specifically designed for mid-career professionals with 5 to 12 years of full time work experience.
- PGPX : A few IIMs provide a one-year Post Graduate Diploma Program for graduates who possess relevant work experience. Admission to the PGPX program is offered through GMAT and GRE scores.
- IPM : The Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) is a five-year course offered after the 12th grade. At present, 5 IIMs, namely IIM Indore, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, IIM Jammu, and IIM Bodh Gaya, offer the IPM course. This unique program blends undergraduate and postgraduate education.
- Certificate Executive Programs : Many IIMs also offer short-term executive education and part-time certificate programs designed for working professionals. Candidates can pursue these management courses while continuing their work.
- FPM : The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is a doctoral-level program available at select IIMs. This course is equivalent to a PhD on an international scale.
What is IIM Admission Procedure?
The process of getting admission to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) involves several key stages. These are as follows:- CAT Registration: For IIM admission, candidates initially need to register for CAT.
- CAT Exam: Following registration, CAT conducting IIM releases CAT admit card online. Prospective candidates should download the admit card and take the CAT exam on the specified date and exam centre.
- WAT/PI Rounds: Following the conclusion of the CAT exam, IIM releases CAT results. Candidates who secure a score above the IIM cutoff receive call letters for WAT and PI rounds. Each IIM conducts its separate WAT-PI round. However, 10 new IIMs conduct CAP rounds to select deserving candidates.
- IIM Shortlisting: After the conclusion of WAT-Pi rounds, the admission committee releases the final merit list of selected candidates. To confirm admission to IIMs, shortlisted candidates must submit the acceptance fee before the deadline.
What is IIM Seat Intake?
India has 21 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). These are classified into three categories: old, new, and baby IIMs. Each IIM has a separate seat intake for MBA programs.
