NID Assam Overview
National Institute of Design (NID) Assam, also known as NID Jorhat is a premier design institute in the Assam state. The foundation stone of NID Assam was laid in 2011 and the first design batch was started in 2019. The institute is a collaborative initiative of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Government of India, and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade to promote design studies. NID Assam courses include full-time Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programs in three distinctive specializations. The institute has been ranked 13th in India by IIRF ranking 2024 for Design. Admission to NID Assam courses is entrance-based. The institute has a campus area of 30 acres, well-equipped with major facilities necessary for students to pursue design courses. NID Assam Courses
NID Assam courses consist of a full-time four-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des) at the undergraduate level. The course is available in three specializations namely Textile & Apparel Design, Communication Design, and Industrial Design. NID Assam offers a total of 75 seats for B.Des courses of which 25 seats are for each specialization. For admission to NID Assam courses, candidates have to appear for the NID entrance exam and obtain valid marks. NID Assam Course Admissions
NID Assam course admissions under B.Des design programs are based on merit in the NID DAT. NID Assam offers B.Des program at the UG level for a duration of 4 years in three disciplines in the field of design. Candidates are required to obtain aggregate merit scores in the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) consisting of prelims and mains examinations. NID DAT Prelims and Mains constitute NID Design Aptitude Test. Based on the marks obtained by the candidates in NID DAT Prelims, they will be qualified for the NID DAT Mains examination. The NID Assam course admissions will be offered based on the weighted scores obtained by the candidates in NID DAT Prelims and Mains. Candidates who clear the prelims and mains of the NID DAT get shortlisted for the NID counselling rounds. Seat allotment to NID Haryana courses will be strictly based on merit list, the candidate's category, and availability of seats offered by the institute under a particular course. For seat confirmation, candidates have to accept the seat allotted to them during counseling, complete the document verification process, and pay the requisite admission fee. It must be noted that candidates who will get admission to B.Des courses at NID Assam will be required to attend a one-year mandatory foundation program. The choice of specialization will be offered in second year based on the merit of candidates in the foundation program/First Year.
