The 5.5-year Professional Education M.Des (Integrated Pathway) is a separate programme from the regular 2.5-year M.Des offered at NID Bengaluru. The official NID 2027 admission portal lists both programmes for the Bengaluru campus.
For 2027-28, the 5.5-year Professional Education M.Des (Integrated Pathway) at NID Bengaluru has four disciplines across two design streams. Each discipline has an intake of nine seats.

NID Bengaluru also offers the regular 2.5-year M.Des programme for graduates. Its disciplines include Design for Retail Experience, Digital Game Design, Information Design, Interaction Design and Universal Design. However, this is a separate programme and should not be confused with the 5.5-year Integrated M.Des pathway for the 2027-28 admission cycle.
For the 2027-28 Integrated M.Des admission cycle, you apply through the official NID admissions portal. The application window opened on 10 September 2026, and the last date to submit the application is 30 November 2026 up to 11:59 pm IST. DAT Prelims is scheduled for 20 December 2026.

To be announced |
NID states that examination schedules and the nature or structure of the DAT may be changed by the Institute if required. Candidates should therefore check the official admission portal for updates.
If you are planning to apply for the 5.5-year Professional Education M.Des (Integrated Pathway) at NID Bengaluru, you must meet the prescribed Class 12 or equivalent qualification requirements.
You must have passed or be appearing for Class 12 or an equivalent qualifying examination.
You can apply from any recognised stream, subject to the eligibility conditions specified by NID.
You can apply while appearing for your qualifying examination, provided you meet NID's eligibility requirements.
You must submit the required marksheet or other documents within the deadline specified by NID
The NID DAT admission process has two stages:
DAT Prelims: The first stage of the entrance process. Prelims scores are used to shortlist candidates for DAT Mains.
DAT Mains: Shortlisted candidates appear for the Studio Sensitivity Test and In-Person Sensitivity Test. NID uses the DAT Mains score for admission to the respective institution.
Final admission: Candidates who qualify through the admission process are considered for seat allocation according to the applicable merit, category and preference rules.
For the 2027-28 cycle, NID has stated that the number of candidates shortlisted for DAT Mains will be 2.5 times the available seats in each category, subject to the applicable tie-break policy.
NID has not released a 2027 cutoff for NID Bengaluru because the admission process for the 2027-28 cycle is still underway.
For the 5.5-year Integrated M.Des, it is also important not to treat previous cutoffs for the regular 2.5-year M.Des as a direct prediction of the 2027 Integrated M.Des cutoff. The two programmes have different admission structures and eligibility routes.
Instead of targeting a fixed cutoff score, focus on clearing DAT Prelims and preparing thoroughly for DAT Mains. Your preparation should include visual problem-solving, design aptitude, observation, creativity and the skills required for the Mains stages.
A focused preparation plan can help you approach the NID DAT more effectively.
Understand the current exam structure: Follow the latest 2027-28 admission updates instead of relying only on older papers or patterns.
Practise visual problem-solving: Work on observation, visual reasoning, sketching and design-based questions under time limits.
Prepare for Mains early: DAT Prelims is only the shortlisting stage, so do not postpone your Mains preparation.
Develop your ability to explain ideas: The In-Person Sensitivity Test can require you to communicate your design thinking and respond to questions about your work.
Use previous papers carefully: Older papers are useful for practice, but the format and question types may change from one admission cycle to another.
