The CLAT 2025 Counselling Invite List is prepared by the Consortium of NLUs through a systematic process. First, a category-wise merit list is created based on candidates’ CLAT scores, grouping students according to their respective categories, such as General, SC, ST, OBC, and others. The consortium then shortlists candidates from each category according to the set weightage and seat availability. Only those candidates are invited who have got highest ranks within their categories to participate in counselling.
The invite list is published online and has details of the admit card numbers of selected candidates. Formal messages and notifications are sent through email or SMS to the shortlisted candidates informing them to register and proceed with the counselling process.
After the release of the CLAT 2025 Counselling Invite List, shortlisted candidates must log in to the official CLAT portal to register for counselling, update their preferences for NLUs, and pay the required counselling fee online. Only those who complete this registration process by the specified deadline are eligible for seat allotment in the upcoming rounds. Once registered, candidates participate in the centralised online counselling process, where they can accept the allotted seat, apply for an upgrade, or exit the process during each round. The first merit list and seat allotment results are then published as per the counselling schedule, and candidates must follow further admission formalities at their allotted NLU.
The Consortium of NLUs will conduct the CLAT 2025 seat allotment process in 5 rounds. It will be held entirely in online mode through a centralized process. Based on candidates’ CLAT ranks, category, and stated preferences, seat are allotted to the shorlited candidates. After registering for counselling and submitting their NLU choices, eligible candidates are considered for seat allotment in successive rounds, with each round publishing a merit-based allotment list. Candidates can choose to “Freeze” (accept the allotted seat), “Float” (wait for a higher preference in subsequent rounds), or “Exit” (withdraw from the process), and must pay the confirmation fee to secure their seat. Seat confirmation will be done after document verification and payment of admission fee.
The CLAT 2025 seat matrix outlines the total number of seats available for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs across 25 participating National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. Notably, NLSIU Bengaluru has increased its UG intake to 310 seats for 2025. The seat matrix varies by NLU, with category-wise and domicile reservations, and is a key reference for candidates during the counselling and seat allotment process. The following table mentions the CLAT 2025 seat matrix.
