At the beginning of the GMAT exam, candidates are provided with an erasable notepad and marker. For any rough work and calculation in the QR and VR section, candidates must use the notepad only. However, in the DI section of GMAT Focus, candidates have the option to use either the notepad or onscreen calculator for calculations.
Functions of Calculators on the GMAT Focus Edition
During the Data Insights segment of the GMAT, candidates are provided with a button labelled "Calculator" in the top left corner of their computer screen. This button is exclusively available when candidates start solving the Data Insights section. Upon clicking the GMAT calculator button, a calculator interface opens in the centre of the computer screen. The calculator is similar to any standard calculator. Above the number pad, there are buttons for various functions. These include the following:- Backspace for clearing the last digit entered.
- CE for clearing the last line of numbers.
- C for deleting all previous operations along with the current entry.
- On the right side of the GMAT DI calculator, candidates get a column of four buttons for basic arithmetic operations (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction)
- sqrt computes the square root of the last entered number.
- 1/x calculates the reciprocal of the last entered number.
- % is used to adjust a number by a specified percentage (e.g., 35 - 15%).
- MC is used to clear the memory.
- M+ adds the currently displayed number to the one stored in the memory.
- MS saves a number for later use.
- MR displays the number currently stored in the memory.
