Different ways to talk about your work in the IELTS Speaking test

During the IELTS Speaking Part 1 exam, you may be asked to discuss your career or employment. Various approaches on how to talk about your work in the IELTS Speaking test may be found here, depending on the situation.

Present Employment

I am an expert in computer programming languages and work as a software engineer. I have worked for this company I work for (description of what the firm does or provides) for about three years. For the last six months, I have been working part-time as a cashier. However, my long-term objective is to work as a nurse ultimately. I'm studying nursing right now to achieve that, and when I finish my studies, I'll be able to work as a nurse.

Previous Employment

I choose to move on from my previous position as an account manager at a legal firm and concentrate on what you are doing now or wish to accomplish. Since my new job will provide me with a better package than my previous one, I believe that (what you are doing now or plan to do) is a better match for me.

Future Employment

I wouldn’t mind attempting my hand at being a project manager because I concluded the project manager course from an online platform. My goal is to get selected by an MNC, and I'm focusing a lot on learning new skills. Hopefully, everything proceeds according to plan and turns out well.

No Job

I just received my business degree from a university with a focus on international relations thus, I'm now looking for work. I hope to be selected for the customer relationship manager position for which I applied. I want to first get a job as an administrative assistant, but I want to avoid (the kind of work or business you don't like). I’m actually between jobs at the time. I used to work as a teacher at a language school, but I'm no longer employed there due to certain circumstances. To put my abilities to use, I'm now looking for a job and would want to work in the teaching field.

People around you in your workplace

My colleagues and I get along well because they help me through tough times. Because my employer treated me so well, I also admire them. I get along well with our clients and consumers because they speak professionally. Some of my coworkers treat me like a rival, which makes them a little difficult to get along with. My supervisor can be a bit of trouble at times because he/she expects a lot from me. Because they desire the greatest service for us, the clients and consumers we deal with might be exhausting at times.

Location of your office

I've been working remotely lately, which I don't mind since I want to try new things. Sometimes we have to go off-site to ease our minds, which is wonderful because I don’t like being trapped in a desk all day. The business is situated in a prime location, just a short distance from the train station. It takes me a long time to get to and from work since the office is a little out of the way—it's outside of the city.
