Every year, there is a slight variation in the GATE Cut Off. This is because numerous factors affect this Cut Off, which is not the same every year. These factors include the number of candidates appearing for the exam, the difficulty level, and the number of candidates that can score well. The factors that directly impact the GATE Cut Off are-
If the difficulty level of a particular GATE exam is high, then the Cut Offs are generally low that year. This is because, due to the incredible difficulty of the exam, fewer students will be able to score well. As a result, not many students can clear the exam. So generally, Cut Offs are kept low if the difficulty level of the exams is high.
If the number of students is high, then it means that there will be more competition. As a result, more students will compete for a particular seat. So eventually, Cut Offs will be high that specific year.
Seat availability is a significant parameter in deciding the GATE Cut Off. Every institution in India has a particular number of seats it can allot to students. Sometimes the seats are fewer and sometimes more. Cut Offs are generally high if the number of seats available for a specific year is low.
It is essential to know that everyone appearing for the GATE exam is not subjected to the same Cut Off. Students belonging to different categories have different subjective Cut Offs. For example, the Cut Offs for general students are comparatively higher than that of students belonging to the SC and ST.
