What is the Difference Between UCEED and CEED: UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) and CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) are both prestigious design entrance exams in India conducted by IIT Bombay, but they cater to different levels of academic education and have distinctive features. Both exams assess candidates' aptitude for design, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Both UCEED and CEED have their unique structure, eligibility criteria, which are tailored to the specific level of study. In light of these differences, aspiring candidates must consider their career goals and accordingly align their preparation with the exam level.

Difference Between UCEED and CEED Overview

IIT Bombay conducts both UCEED and CEED design entrance exams for admission to design courses in various institutes. UCEED vs CEED Eligibility Criteria

In order to get admission to design courses at IITs through UCEED and CEED entrance exams, students must ensure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria as prescribed by the authorities. A major difference between UCEED and CEED with respect to eligibility criteria is that for UCEED, candidates have to be under the age of 23 years, while for CEED there is no age limit. Based on eligibility criteria, the differences between UCEED and CEED are mentioned below.

UCEED Eligibility Criteria

Candidates preparing for UCEED entrance exam must fulfill the eligibility criteria for admission to design courses.
  • Candidates must be under the age of 23 years to appear for the UCEED entrance exam. Candidates belonging to the General/EWS/OBC-NL category must have been born on or after 1st October 2000, while the SC/ST/PwD category candidates should have been born on or after 1st October 1995.
  • Candidates can appear for the UCEED entrance exam only twice in consecutive years.
  • To appear for the UCEED 2025 entrance exam, candidates must have completed their class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognized board. Candidates must check out the detailed eligibility criteria of the colleges that they are applying to.

CEED Eligibility Criteria

The M.Des aspirants for the IITs must fulfill the given eligibility criteria for admission to these colleges.
  • There is no age restriction for admission to M.Des courses through CEED entrance exam. Candidates of any age group can appear for the CEED entrance exam.
  • Candidates must have completed a degree/diploma/post-graduate degree of 3 years after 10+2 level.
  • There is no limit on the number of attempts, candidates can appear for the CEED entrance exam.

UCEED vs CEED Counselling Process

The UCEED counselling process will commence after the declaration of UCEED results. Once the UCEED 2025 exam results are out, . Candidates who have qualified the UCEED entrance exam have to register themselves in the UCEED exam portal through the official website. The candidates are required to fill out their preferences of colleges and upload the mandatory documents, including the UCEED result. To complete the process, candidates have to pay INR 2000/- as the registration fee. Candidates who will be allotted seats in the counselling process will be notified by the authorities and they need to pay INR 60,000/- as the seat acceptance fee to confirm their seats. Contrary to this, CEED counselling process dictates candidates to apply individually to each participating institute. Candidates have to fill out the application form for each college and pay the fee individually. For further selection, they need to appear for an entrance exam and personal interview. The list of selected candidates will be issued individually by the colleges and the result will be published on the official website. To confirm their seats, candidates have to pay the seat acceptance fee before the deadline.
