Proposed Changes in LPT Norms

  2. Language Qualification Criteria: Applicants who studied the local language(s) in Class 10 or above or hold equivalent certification will be deemed proficient.
  3. LPT for Provisionally Selected Candidates: Candidates who qualify through online exams, screenings, and interviews but lack certification or qualification in the local language must pass an Language Proficiency Test before joining.
  4. Committee for LPT Assessment: Committees constituted under Rule 8 of the AOER, 2017, will conduct and evaluate LPTs to ensure fair and transparent assessments.

Existing IBPS RRB LPT Norms

In accordance with Existing LPT Norms for IBPS RRB PO & Clerk, individuals who learned the local language of the RRB’s state in Standard VIII or higher at a government-recognized institution, or who have a proficiency certificate at this level, are deemed proficient. Individuals without these qualifications are given up to six months after joining to develop local language abilities, with an option for an additional six months, subject to the Board’s consent. Nonetheless, proficiency needs to be attained within the probation period.

IBPS RRB Language Proficiency Test

The IBPS Clerk Language Proficiency Test evaluates candidates’ English language capabilities through a format of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The LPT typically contains 50 questions that must be finished within a duration of 25 minutes. The sections included in the test encompass:
  1. Reading Comprehension: Candidates are examined on their capacity to comprehend and interpret written passages, respond to questions based on the provided information, and make inferences.
  2. Grammar: This portion appraises candidates’ understanding of grammar regulations, including parts of speech, tenses, sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the identification of errors.
  3. Vocabulary: Candidates’ vocabulary abilities are measured through queries regarding synonyms, antonyms, analogies, and word application.
